Kesler traded!!

Kes to Anaheim for Nick Bonino, Luca Sbisa and a 24th overall pick. Some 3rd round pick swapping too.

Kloubek
06-27-2014, 12:55 PM
Sbisa's worth is very low. I wonder if it was actually an advantage for the Ducks to unload him.

Bonino may or may not turn out to be a very good player. He had more points than Kesler last year too. 24th pick might come in handy this draft, and the 3rd round swap was to obtain another pick this draft as well.

Personally, I wish the Canucks got more but my objective side says it was a pretty even trade.

DeleriousZ
06-27-2014, 01:05 PM
My initial reaction was THAT'S IT?? but after looking at it it's better than it looks.

Bonino is younger, 26, than kesler (31). I don't know about bonino's history, but kesler is injury prone, so hopefully bonino will be a bit more reliable.

24th pick isn't to be forgotten. Pair it with their 6th spot and some extra's they could have more moves in the bag.

Considering Kesler was cock-blocking a trade to 27 teams (rumour was Anaheim and Chicago were on his list) that return is pretty damn good.

Don't know about this one either. Yes, it clears up cap - but with the cap going up, the Canucks were not in trouble anyway.

I imagine this *must* mean Vancouver is looking to get a high(er) paid player(s) before the season starts.

Vancouver Canucks @VanCanucks
#Canucks acquire RW Derek Dorsett from NYR for 85th pick in this year's draft.

Which is the pick they just received in Kesler trade I think.

Ribeiro bought out after just playing one year with the Coyotes.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=455852

Sounds like he was a cancer in the locker room.

@azc_mclellan

Maloney said this move was purely about behavioral issues and not cost-saving move. Ribeiro has been seeking help this summer, Maloney said.

Maloney: "Mike had some real behavioral issues we felt we could not tolerate going forward."

Maloney said this decision doesn't necessarily make #Coyotes better team next season but better organization in long run.

#Coyotes weren't naive when they acquired Ribeiro last summer, but Maloney thought they could manage. Called it "mistake" now.

And to be clear, this is not a compliance buyout. Ribeiro will get paid over next six years just under $2 million.

They're moving up draft positions, but not really stockpiling picks or prospects.

Getting rid of expensive contracts is a good first step though.

+1, 5.3m for 3 years for a 38 year old? NO THANKS.

Miller signs with Vancouver for 6m/y for 3 years. Interesting signing, I like the term but that's pretty rich for a complete head case. Given Vancouver's history with goalies it could turn into another side show...

Central Division Arms Race!!

OT but I kind of hate Winnipeg at this point. I still cheer for them because I'm from there but WTF is management thinking not going after any good goalies? Sure the Flames could have used Hiller but the Jets actually needed him. Pavelec sucks.

Colorado did it for Bourque, I hope they do it with Iggy.

Can't wait for the season to start. With Hiller in net we might be able to win some of those 1 goal games we so often lost last year.

There are still some top goalies in the UFA. From the Googles, Halak is still up for grabs.

The rest are the oldie but goodies; Brodeur, Nabokov, Vokoun, etc.

Kloubek

I actually was hoping Vancouver would sign Vokoun. He's far cheaper, would accept a short term, has similar stats, would accept being relegated to a backup if required, and isn't a drama queen. I've been happy with Benning's work so far, but he has lost me on the Miller signing. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

I was REALLY hoping Vancouver could get Iginla to play with the Sedins, and a winger to help bolster the 2nd line as well. If I was GM I would have been willing to pay him a little more to make that decision.

So far, I'd say Vancouver has lost in free agency.

I think Vancouver was aiming for a long-term marquee goalie and I think Miller can do that.

However, I would've done the same thing that you suggested; having a dependable veteran and build around young prospects.

Halak signed with NYI for 4 years
Nabokov signed with TB
Brodeur should just hang them up
Vokoun is a very good option for WPG, not sure why they let Montoya walk, he was a great backup.

Cheveldayoff should be fired because this Winnipeg team will remain at the bottom of the Central division pile for quite some time. At least MacTavish is trying something with his roster, for better or worse. So far, it isn't looking great. LOL

8 years, $10.5M AAV extensions each for both Toews and Kane!!

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=456795

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane to eight-year contract extensions, each worth an average annual value of $10.5 million.

Toews and Kane each had one year remaining on their previous contracts. They both signed identical five-year $31.5 million contracts prior to the 2010-11 season.

In 76 games with the Blackhawks this season, Toews scored 28 goals and added 40 assists. He scored nine goals and 17 points in 19 playoff games.

Kane scored 29 goals and added 40 assists in 69 games. He added eight goals and 20 points in 19 playoff games.

Toews was drafted third overall in the 2006 Draft by the Blackhawks. Kane was drafted first overall in the 2007 Draft.

Toews was named the 34th captain in Blackhawks history prior to the 2008-09 season.

Helmets off too!! We know Dion's move, start a fight and then drop the visor down and keep swinging like Ulf Samuelsson.

With helmets off, Jarome would have tuned him.

Just looking at Iginla's fight card on hockeyfights.com and he wins most bouts. Dion, not so much. Drew Stafford got him in the pre-season.

As I got in the car this morning, the guys on the FAN were talking about Iggy and Dion, and Boomer asked Rhett to "shed some light" on the Dion situation.

All that Rhett would say was that something may or may not have happened with somebody, but he wouldn't elaborate. He did initially deny that it was Iggy and Dion though.

The 'evidence' is a rumour that started on Calgary Puck.

Dion did not get along with everyone in the room, that was well documented, but the whole sleeping with a teammates wife is the oldest hockey rumour out there. Even that hack online website posted above mentions 2 other cases (Mogilny and Muller) of players sleeping with teammates wives.

Regardless of what happened I would have liked to see Iginla lay a beat down on Dion

What I heard from a somewhat reliable source is that Phageuff was banging Conroys wife. Iggy called Phageuff out about it and they ended up getting into it, Iggy through him down a set of stairs and injured him for a couple games, traded shorly after that.

Also would be good to know what sort of stats are you counting for your pool (ie: Special Team points? Hits? Blocked shot? etc.).

Is there a salary cap restriction?

I have James Neal and Joe Pavelski and I was thinking of dumping either for Brock Nelson.

No salary cap or anything, extremely simple pool (Goals, assists).

I thought I could add another player by benching another one, but I can't, I must be at the maximum. I have to drop a player if I want to add another one at the moment. My sweet plan is foiled

Think I should do that swap? Neal isn't on Pittsburgh anymore, and Brock Nelson is looking great. Or I could get rid of Pavelski.

In my opinion, I would stick with Pavelski and Neal as they are proven scorers. Definitely Pavelski over Neal because he doesn't have Malkin drawing defenders away anymore.

Brock is riding the gravy train du jour that is the Islanders, he will likely slow down after a few weeks have passed - though I could be wrong about that too. :dunno:

Thanks for weighing in. My thought was since Brock plays with Tavaras and Okoposo he is going to get a lot of points by association. I was going to drop Pavelski for Brock but I think I'll give it one more weekend here. If Neal doesn't start putting up the points he's gone too haha.

Only difference being Varlamov wasn't suspended during the investigation. The NHL suspending Voynov just on the allegations alone is a knee jerk reaction to what's been happening in the NFL.

I read they waited for certain facts before they suspended him. Not a knee jerk reaction to the NFL.

Seems knee jerk to me considering he is suspended but still being paid. If they had enough evidence to warrant a suspension, it should have been suspension with out pay.

Well I screwed myself over and I thought we could use our "bench" spot in the draft but we can't (its an extremely simply draft), so I need to drop a forward now that Datsyuk is coming back off IR and playing today.

Which forward would you guys get rid of? I have one too many:

Crosby
Backstrom
Pavelski
Parise
Marleau
Eric Stall
Brock Nelson
David Backes
Wayne Simmonds
Tyler Bozak
Datsyuk

I'm thinking I should give Datsyuk a game or two to see how he does, he's playing on the Zetterburg line, but his points have been steadily declining and he gets injured a lot.

I'd drop Bozak if he wasn't on the first line playing with top guys.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

I would drop Eric Staal. talk about a guy on the decline. I wouldn't even consider this guy a star player any more.

Thanks for your input. Pardon my ignorance but from what I can see he's had 60-100 point years since 2005/2006, and he's probably the best player on the Hurricanes even though that team is pretty bad (correct me if I'm wrong). He also got me 2 points in 2 games for the ones he did play, and isn't he looking to be traded to a better team where he could shine (just a rumor though)?

Thanks again - just trying to make the best decision with my limited hockey knowledge haha. I'm also worried Datsyuk will get injured again, he only got 37pts last year which is a bit weak for a top-line forward.
