Hey Guys,

My father in-law is coming over from Japan. He is a big golf guy and plays golf almost daily in Japan (retired). He has played golf in Mexico already and will be in Panama in a few weeks as well, but has never played in Canada. What would be a good golf course to take someone such as him, so that he can get some good views and at the same time isn't terribly expensive. I was looking at the Silvertip near Canmore, looks impressive, but at $129 seems a bit steep, or is that always the price for most courses?

My friend and I are joining him on this round of play (we both suck...., he is cool with that.) so ideally something that isn't too busy as well.... Looking at heading out on July 18th

I have always enjoyed playing Innisfail (especially the original 18), watervalley, Turner valley and beaver dam are a few of my favorite courses.

Invermere and radium are filled with beautiful courses. Eagle ranch, copper point, radium springs to name a few. And it's only a 3 hour drive through the mountains.

Yeah, if he has travelled all this way check out stewart creek in canmore. Probably the best scenery around in my opinion. Try going during the week I think the rates are a bit cheaper.

Golden (bc), Rocky Mountain house (pine hills course), Cardston (if you drink byob, cuz it's dry town)

Silver tip and Stewart creek in Canmore are both really nice. They're expensive but the views are immaculate.

If you're playing a couple rounds Darcy Ranch in Okotoks is also really nice and more reasonably priced.

Just went to the shuswap on the weekend and golfed at Hyde Mountain. Beautiful mountain golf course with amazing views of the mountains, trees, and overlooking lake shuswap.

Paid ~$70 for 18 holes and cart.

Speargrass is great, though not on the same level as the mountain courses mentioned above for scenery

My top 10
1. Stewart Creek
2. Banff Springs
3. Hamptons
4. Heritage Pointe (Pointe/Heritage 9s)
5. Wintergreen
6. Silvertip
7. Redwood Meadows
8. Sundre
9. Links of Gleneagles
10. Sirocco

Watervalley and River Spirit (Spirit/Millburn 9s) deserve mention too.

Most Japanese won't blink an eye at spending $200 for golf. Last time I teed up in Japan I spent about $500 for 18 holes at a mediocre track.

I'm not much of a golfer but I liked the Turner Valley track. Had a good view of the mountains and it was well priced.

The Canmore Golf & Curling Club is quite nice. Not sure if it's members only or not, have only been on it during company tournaments before the company got cheap, and switched to other lame activities. Oops did I just type that out loud?

You really have to take him to a mountain course since that is really the only thing that will stand out about our canadian courses.

If he is going to only play one round, play Banff Springs. It's a bucket list course for so many people. If you are playing within Calgary, I would choose Hamptons, Elks or Heritage Point as a last resort.
