Hi guys, I'm looking to hire a real estate lawyer to handle the paper work of selling my existing home and buy a new home from a builder. Any any recommendation would be appreciated.

Also, what would be the cost for legal service and is it necessary to have the lawyer review the sell agreement from the builder before sign off?

Thanks!

I used Gary Daniels in Hillhurst as our family knows the receptionist there and my Mom used him when she bought like 20+ years ago. Made it a super easy process, especially for someone buying their first place which was relieving.

I used Allan Ross, his rates were good and he's really easy to work with.
Office is located on centre st, just north of the DT bridge.

I just used the builder's lawyer for a few hundred dollars. Simplified things and worked out to about half the cost of any of the quotes I received from elsewhere. If you're using any sort of reputable builder, the risk is pretty minimal since it's all boilerplate language that they use over and over again.

I used Richard Cragg (https://plus.google.com/117441943401109589967/about?gl=ca&hl=en) who I had seen recommended on Beyond. He's one of the cheaper lawyers out there, his office isn't the nicest but he got my deal done on time with no issues.

Using Clark and Clark (as recommended by Jordan) and so far so good. Will find out the total fees tomorrow when i go for the signing.

We just used builder's lawyer which was free. It was McLeod Law and the lawyer was great but her assistant was shit at professional communication and suspected r-tard. She kept fucking up the details, resulting in multiple trips to sign things that were missed. So this is more of an "un-recommendation"

I've used Ora-Lee Phillips at Sugimoto and Company a couple of times, highly recommended. She's really good at explaining everything page by page and the price was right on par with anyone else out there.

Also used Richard and everything went very smoothly at a reasonable price.

No kidding - that builder generates huge revenue for that lawyer - red flag. At least you know now it was a poor decision. Did they talk you into it or could they see you coming?

It was an inconvenience more than anything, and I am sort of exaggerating because this is the internet.

Any updates?

Richard Cragg was about $1300 all in and Allan Ross said they couldn't do it in time for our closing date.

Absolutely. The fee was $995 plus costs to a total of around $1700. This was on a new build so there were some extra fees i believe. Great service though and very helpful answering questions about the silly arch. controls.

Thanks for the update. I've called around some more and it seems the going rate is $1200-$1300. I ended up with Ryan Mackay since he's close by, open 9am-9pm + weekends and real estate is all they do.
