So stemming from my thread (http://forums.beyond.ca/st/348239/beyonds-100-tastes-of-calgary/), there seems to be an interest to do a foodie meet.

Thoughts on doing a weekly meet similar to Chinook but with Cars and Craving theme where we meet up, go to restaurants, build up the list, and just have fun.

If there's interest, I can spearhead it and see where it takes us.

Voting is up and left the weekend from the options, because it's the weekend.

friday is like the weekend too... but this could be fun, my vote is tuesday or thursday... but i wont be free till probably september

flipstah
07-30-2014, 04:11 PM
Well, I don't expect Friday to be a popular choice anyways haha.

I'll try to make a weekly thing but I highly doubt it'll happen. It's worth a shot.

Also, vote you lazy fuck.

EDIT: Don't think a meet will start till Sept. anyways as my Aug is packed solid. Others are free to get the ball rolling though.

Sweet. So for the foodie meets, it'll be planned at a maximum, two places within walking distance of one another for the list. Obviously, you don't have to go to both.

It'll be similar to bar hopping if you order with wine or beer.

I could probably make it out for a foodie meet on a Tuesday, depending on the time. But it would have to be to one after mid September, pretty much booked solid until then.

Seems like Tuesday is popular so far so might move Aug 21 Living Room to the 19th!

Living Room is full of cougars so bring your fedoras.

Their tartare is good, in particular the Asian version. The regular whitey version is just ok when compared to Belvedere or Rush.

Food overall was quite good, nice presentation. Wine selection from Sommelier Cos was solid...and not dry ;)

We had the beef tartar and calamari for appetizers. Beef tartar was very good (nice suggestion guys) - really found the capers complemented the beef well and chips that it was served with were crunchy, fairly light because they were not solid chips and not greasy. Moreover the beef was of good quality and had that "melting" factor when in your mouth.

The grilled calamari was a surprise, really liked this dish. So many flavours it was hard for me to pick a specific one that made the dish so delicious but overall just tasted very fresh! Then again, you can never go wrong with crème fraîche can you? *insert South Park episode.* I would say that it's the best I've had in town especially since La Brezza started to deep fry their's for some asinine reason. I'll go back for this dish alone.

I had halibut for my entrée and this is where I was not impressed at all. The halibut was overcooked and oversalted. Add to that the tabbouleh was incredibly(!) grainy tasting and it led to a mediocore $31 entrée.

Again, overall very pleased with The Living Room, service was top-notch and those appetizers were fantastic. Perhaps next time I'll have to try something else for an entrée or skip right to a dessert since I didn't make it there this time.

flipstah
10-01-2014, 08:57 AM
^ If I had an entrée like yours, then I wouldn't go back.

The appetizers reel you in while the entrée should hold you down.

I ordered the venison chops and they were delightful. Cooked rare and accompanied with fancy version of tater tots.

The calamari for me, was the goodie. It was citric, fresh which matched the grilling cooking style to a tee.

It's like summer never left. I'd go back but order something else.

ercchry
10-01-2014, 09:20 AM
Short ribs were good, only change i would of made would be to hit them with a little flame at some point in the cooking process... needed that extra dimension of texture and flavor profile. but they were super tender, sauce was nice, although a little thin. Was more like a stew than what could of been a nice glaze. Carrots freaked me out a bit
