After the Robert Yost video... I found a link to this story about how dash cams are fighting against insurance fraud.

Video and article here:
http://globalnews.ca/news/1446643/collisions-caught-on-dash-cam-could-help-avoid-insurance-fraud/

IMO, dash cams would be an awesome investment against stupidity such as this.

ummmm....where have you been?

this has been discussed, and beaten quite a bit. We have even had numerous dash cam group buys on here.

Even one of our member's wives (fiancee?) has been victim of this fraud, and was protected by the dash cam they got from one of my group buys.

Apparently this is so common in Russia that almost everyone has dash cams.

Soon everyone will need dash cams in the rear too because those who actually rear-end someone will say it's insurance fraud, lol.

I'm tempted to get that dual camera Blackvue, but the quality of the original Blackvues were so fucking bad. I still have one of two that is working, but it burns up memory cards like a toaster.

Yeah just google Russian dash cam compilation

There was a good bit on The Daily Show when the meteor landed in Russia and they highlighted this problem. There was one shown with this old guy who literally rolled across the hood of a stopped car LOL.

A taste!

This wasn't a case of insurance fraud, but my dashcam saved my arse in an accident. A driver hit my rear quarter fender just as I completed a lane change, and he tried to say that I changed lanes into him. What happened in reality was that he saw me changing lanes 2-3 car lengths in front of him, and he gunned it in an effort to not let me in.

If I didn't have the camera on my windshield, I think the outcome would have been much different. The dashcam, although it was pointed forward, proved my lane change was completed before the time of impact, and the insurance company ruled that I was 100% not at fault.

Best $50 I ever spent!!

Some chick in a BMW rear ended a Honda, driven by a person who slammed on their brakes for no reason.

One day a dash cam hero is gonna record something they shouldn't have, and it could have negative consequences. I can't wait till I hear, on the news, about a dashcam hero getting the shit kicked out of him and his dashcam destroyed, all because they couldn't mind their own God damned business.

Well if it recorded something negative then it is a negative consequence. Isn't that the reason why people are installing this? To have proof that something negative happened? :nut:

I haven't bought this one yet, still debating. But people are saying it's good, its small enough to stay hidden, and apparently its really easy to hard-wire in yourself.

The one I got was about $50 on eBay...the video quality isn't as great though, and the suction cup isn't working so good anymore. Hence why I'm thinking about getting a new one. Video will be true HD, its got GPS, and it'll be fixed to the windshield with 3M tape.

I first bought a cheap one for $25. The video wasn't bad but it only lasted about 3 weeks and crapped out. I then got the Marcus 3 after seeing the group buy on here. It works quite well.

All I am saying is if you had not figured out that dashcams can protect you from fraud and shysters trying to make a quick buck, where the eff have you been? All I did was search "blackvue" and those were all on the frist page of results. I am sure "dashcam" would yeild way more results. Just because a few people didn't know, doesn't mean it didn't get hashed over plenty.

Ok so just to be clear... I've been wanting to get one for a long time. These dashcams come with a 12-volt cigarette adapter power supply? And if you desired to, you could hard wire them into a power supply.

So if I get one for my commuter car, it would only function when the key is in the "ON" or "ACC" position. Basically rendering the parking function useless unless hard wired.

Am I correct?

i bought the ojocam2 in the other thread. you can get a cigarette adapter, or hardwire kit. I hardwired it into my fuse box, and tapped into the homelink system. So it only turns on when my car is started. was really easy.

I have the DVR-207 from eStore009 on eBay. It plugs into the 12v outlet, but it features a build in reducer that steps it down to 5.5v. I leave it plugged in 24/7 and have no issues with battery drain. I have left the camera plugged in for four days straight without driving the car and I havent had any issues. I haven't wired it yet because I have two vehicles and swap the camera between the two. Only thing with leaving the camera running 24/7 is that with a 32mb SD card the total record time on continious recording is only like 36 hours. Basically you need to save the footage right when you find something has happened. But I find the 24/7 recording to be more fool proof then the parking sensor.

I should just shut up and get one and figure out for myself if the "issue" is actually going to be an issue.

I doubt that I would even use it when I'm parked in a lot somewhere.
