Huh. I always wondered how those compensated for that sweep effect. I guess it never did.

I always wondered that too... as well as beam spread over long distances.

But I always thought that LIDAR had to be tripod mounted when in use in Alberta. I don't think that is, or ever was, the case though.

That being said, I have never seen one used without a tripod mount.

Yeah, I always assumed the pulse frequency was quick enough to negate any sweeping or hand holding shakes. I had no idea it was that long.

^^^ I have never seen one used WITH a tripod. They are always crouching behind a bush, using the window sill of a car, etc. I know they have tripods, but they never seen to use them (when I drive by anyway). Almost always free-standing or using their car for support in some way.

It depends on the officer, I guess. Sometimes they'll do it through the car window, then flick on the lights and chase you down. RCMP and Sheriffs do this on the highways, and CPS do it on the high-speed roads in the city.

But then again, I've seen CPS Traffic on 80-speed roads (WB 16th Ave @ Stoney for example) using the tripod, and stepping out into the lanes to stop vehicles.
