Has anyone taken the advance road test lately? My license is due to expire in October and I might as well get my non GDL while I renew it.

I'm planning on taking it at North Hill registry and just wondering what they will be testing exactly.

Thanks

They seem like a decent registry. I'm sure if you called and asked they'd tell you everything.

But seriously, it's easy. Just normal driving, follow the rules.

Only things I lost points for (20 pts) were blocking the crosswalk while going to turn right at an intersection.

Same thing as the GDL test and you have to drive on deerfoot. For speed +/-2 on the speed limit. at uncontrolled intersection make sure you slow down to 30-40km and be prepare to stop, lean forward and check both way, make sure you know your right of way. . some examiner will ask you question. Do not pass a bike unless it in the parking lane.

Failed me with 0 points for driving through an intersection with trees on either side at 40 and not slowing down even further. :banghead:

Cash grab. Been driving on my gdl for 6 years out of
Principle.

The number of people who don't upgrade is getting huge and I see the program going away.

My way of attempting to save 200 bucks. Rather spend it on beers that I cant have before driving

I am still GDL after 8 years
Really need to take it so I can have some beer and still drive instead of going to the bar for a burger and coke.

Yea it gets irritating but it does reinforce good habits re: drinking and driving.

Had a buddy get a bs gdl DUI a couple years back. Had to sell his car to pay the fines. :thumbsdow

Yeah I know, I would never drink and drive but it would be nice to not have to worry about being at 0 bac all of the time as I hate taking taxis and uber is slowly on its way. Stampede we just carpooled to work every day and taxied home

No you don't, each registry has a different route depending on their location in the city.

Each test is going to be the same when it comes to the basic elements. Driving on neighborhood roads, driving on higher speed roads, parking lot at the beginning and end of the test, turns with and across traffic. You also have to parallel park now.

Keep both hands on the wheel, don't use the radio, let off the gas and cover the brake at uncontrolled intersections and keep it exactly on the limit or 1 or 2 under. They'll take you through school/playground zones, so make sure you're up to speed on the new rules.

The only thing I got hit for was a deduction for going 42 in a 50 zone while we were in an unfamiliar neighborhood and not coming of the merge lane fast enough, even though I would have cut a cop off in doing so.

I think so but it was a moot point for me because I moved into to the university the next day. Still hate them though lol.

How does this effect your insurance rates? Wouldn't insurance company have higher rate for people without a full licence?

If I were them I would just think the person is a terrible driver and can't past the test... run into shit and don't report it... :dunno:

Maybe Masked Bandit could chime in?

Just booked my advanced road test for Sept 13th if anyone knows what the route is going to be like and can high light it out on a map that'd be greatly appreciated! thanks!

My advanced road test was super easy (although it was at Southland Registries) basically the entire test, half an hour, was driving through residential. So most important for me was uncontrolled intersections, playground/school zones, looking out for pedestrians, parallel parking (twice I think) etc. Never went on a road faster than 60 kmh.

My tip for doing well is to be comfortable and make the teacher feel comfortable too. After about 5 minutes of driving I started talking about cool trips I'd been on, what his job was like, etc. etc. and we ended up talking the entire time like friends. By the end he hadn't written a single thing on his clipboard.

Nope I still have years of driving experience and zero accidents and currently zero demerits. That would determine rates. I am 27, have a 2011 tsx and pay like ~$60 a month

My guess is they will make it mandatory after a certain amount of time. I watched an article on the news and the government was saying that is something they are looking at.
