View Full Version : Extending warranty on a Benz

So my C63 has about a year of warranty left, and I'm 50,000KM under my allowance, and I'm thinking I should extend my warranty. I'm usually a BMW/Audi guy, so I'm not so versed on Benz's policy on extensions. I prefer to get a bit of information from other owners before dropping by Lonestar and getting my ear talked off by a rep...

If anyone has any details, let me know!

Hmmm how many Kms on your C63 right now?

You have a 2011 P31 so dont need to worry about headbolt issue.

I recently had my C63 transmission fully rebuilt by lonestar due to slippage when shifting into 4th gear. If you are noticing any sort of slippage take it in.

Otherwise these cars are fairly reliable for what it is. I wouldn't get extended warranty personally.

32,000km.

I'm only considering it as a value retaining point. I can service my car at work if needed for the most part.

I'm surprised to hear about your transmission though! Shoulda got a weistech bulletproof ;)

My car was covered under warranty otherwise I would have gotten weistec for sure. The bill for Lonestar to rebuild it was the same price as a weistec lol.

That's pretty harsh!

Is your car tuned at all? Mine will be running 540CHP soon.

Haven't had the best record with Lonestar, they tend to be very rude to me in person... I went in and inquired about an AMG keyback and the guy wouldn't even look up to talk to me, he just said "it's too much for you".

I assume you are first owner? Cause I THINK only the original owner can extend the warranty. That said, I decided not to do the extended route (mine is also an '11).. AMG cars for an additional 2 years costs $7,000 (+ tax?). So I have to incur $7,000 of "in-warranty' repairs JUST to break even.

The issue I have is that if I buy the extended warranty, I will feel obligated to bring my car to Merc to have it serviced for another 2 years ($$$). And not only that, but after regular warranty expires, I am free to go to another mechanic for repairs, which will obviously cost less. Further, I feel warranties can be dicey - they'll do anything to get out of repairing your car (blah blah you modded it blah blah this is regular wear and tear blah blah).

So for me, I decided to roll the dice and hope I don't incur more than $7k in repairs in the next 2 years. So far my car has not had any work done outside of yearly maintenance (and rear tires of course :D ).

I buy extended warranty on two things. Laptops and German cars.

Will you actually own the car long enough for the original warranty to expire??

Considering you are on your 4th car this year chances are not....

You want peace of mind? Then sure go for it.

Generally speaking, these cars are fairly reliable. I have quite a bit of warranty left on mine (3 more years I believe) but I don't get the car serviced at the dealership. For all I know if it comes down to it, they may not even want to repair the damn car under warranty. :dunno:

$7k for an extended warranty? You drive a SLS or something? haha.

Here's everything you need to know about the MB Extended Warranty, including current prices. You don't have to be the first owner, the current owner must have purchased the car from a MB dealer.

C63's are $4500 for 2 years, or $5000 for 3 years. The 3rd year is powertrain only, hence only $500. Still worth it.

It's not a 3rd party warranty, it's exactly the same as your original factory warranty. There's no "I don't want to fix it" crap, they'll deal with it like any other problem.

You sure about that? I take the C to mean regular C class. It states "AMG models" are in the top tier.

Yea, look at the chart. C's are $2620/$2950 for 2/3 years. AMG C's are $4590/$5090.

There's only 1 bracket at $7000 ($6990/$7770 for 2/3 years) and that's the SLS, G, all V12's, S AMG, CL AMG, SL AMG.

Ah ok reading > me! :banghead:

Come to think of it I think I did read that right 2 years ago and still based my decision on the $4,500 price. Older <> wiser.

$5k is a smoking deal on a drivetrain warranty IMO. A new engine is $50k and a new tranny is like $25k. Transmission rebuild is close to $10k I believe too.

That seems relatively reasonable. If I have my car for that long then I might consider getting it when my current one expires.

Crap! When those go, you're better off swapping in a turbo LS with a 6L90 tranny! ;)
