Mazda's upcoming Mazdaspeed3 may be even more powerful than initial rumors had claimed.
The sportier adaptation of the next-generation Mazda3 is now expected to deliver more than 300 horsepower, produced by a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv engine that will also be found in the redesigned CX-9 crossover, unnamed sources have told Automotive News.
The compact is expected to be distinguished by a unique fascia, body kit and wheels, with all-wheel-drive as a likely option.
Corroborating earlier leaks, the latest information suggests the Mazdaspeed3 will arrive on the market in the second half of 2016.
Looking at Mazda's broader lineup, the company is also said to be working on a sportier Mazda2 and a fastback-profile MX-5 Miata hardtop that will arrive a year after the open-air roadster.
