Had to steal some thunder since I hate mazda

2.3L eco boost from the mustang, AWD, 300+hp, what more could you want!

http://www.roadandtrack.com/go/future-cars/2016-ford-focus-rs-first-details-exclusive-insider-info

In the Mustang, this engine makes 310 hp, 320 lb-ft of torque. In the just-released Lincoln MKC crossover, the same engine makes 285 hp. In both applications, a twin-scroll turbo is employed.

Our source says that at this stage, the Focus RS horsepower numbers aren't finalized, and we don't know if it’ll pack the same Honeywell twin-scroll turbo as its stablemates. If we had to place a wager, we’d bet on near-Mustang power levels for the Focus RS, putting it well above the Focus ST in the pecking order.

What we hear squares with other rumors about the Focus RS coming stateside, while fleshing out some more specifics. A number of hurdles still remain, however: marketing studies, government certifications, and corporate willpower—but it ultimately looks like the VW Golf R will get some serious competition next year. We can't wait.

UPDATE: We have additional details about the upcoming 2016 Focus RS from another trusted source, including power output, so let's start with that. With the Mustang GT's V8 holding down a 435 hp spot at the top of the Ford performance pecking order (for now, until the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 emerges), the Focus RS is free to turn up the horsepower wick. Since the 2.3-liter Ecoboost is easily capable of more than its 310 hp output in the Mustang, which was dictated more by fuel economy concerns than anything else, the RS is free to pump out between 325 and 350 hp. The higher figure is more likely. This is because as a low-volume, niche product that doesn't compete with the Mustang GT, there's no reason to hold the Focus RS back.

To put the power down, Ford will employ an entirely new AWD system intended for high-output applications. It's not the same system employed on the Fusion, Escape, and MKZ. The new system will employ torque vectoring front and rear to aid handling, and after debuting in the Focus RS it will trickle down to other applications.

That means the Focus RS might have some high-performance AWD company in Ford's lineup soon.

Hopefully that will persuade Mercedes or Audi to bring over the A45 or the S3 hatch.

Sounds even better than the MS3!

The GLA45 is close enough at this stage, but it's a completely different price bracket. Same goes for the RS3 hatch if it ever makes it here.

I'll totally buy one if this is the case.

It's gunna be marked up so high by dealers. I say 75k

schocker
08-27-2014, 10:46 AM
Why would it be marked up to $75, no one would buy it in that. You could have imported mexican RS's for like $40k iirc. I would say this has to be around $40k to sell against the competition like the Golf R, S3 CLA ETC

Mitsu3000gt

Even I would be tempted to own my first Ford if it had a DCT and if they upped the build quality (they may have, I haven't seen one yet).

It would need to be well under $44K though...since I would still take an S3 over this, even if the focus ends up being a tick faster. Now if only we could get that damn S3 hatchback...

These small hot hatches are the most perfect candidates for DCT's. They make them so much more fun IMO (not to mention faster).

Can't see it being anywhere near $75k...nobody would touch that. Can't you get over 700HP for less than $75K these days? Haha.

$40k sounds right, since the current RS goes for $32k. With dealer markup though, I'm guessing more along $44k.

Hatchback isn't coming back to NA.

At best, GLA45 takes off and Audi may bring in the old RSQ3 to match.

Ford needs to up their quality before people consider them. My moms ecoboost escape is always at the shop. The ecoboost f150 has been known for various problems. If I spend 50k on a car I want something reliable.

So this thing needs to be what, $35K tops? I'd think it will need to be priced below the Golf R as well unless they make enormous changes to their interiors and general build quality (and they may have, I don't know). The Focus ST starts at $26,750, and I don't know how much you can option them up, but low-mid $30K seems reasonable for the RS.

I gotta get in on this kool-aide.

I never cared much for the Focus or fiesta before simply because it didn't have AWD. It's about time they came out with AWD! Need more competition in the AWD, turbo hatchback segment.

Having an automatic transmission with torque converter and simply having an automatic option on a DCT to use in rush hour traffic are entirely different experiences.

This again? I would be surprised if this has stick option due to CAFE.

Stick is dead.

I don't think I'll ever own a sporty car that isn't a stick...

I've always had an affinity to the european RS models, so i'm stoked now that they're FINALLY starting to migrate over here.

It won't be 40k

The focus st only comes in one trim level in Canada and it's $32,999 it will butcher the st sales at 40k

Nope, probably one of my doppelgangers. There's a bunch of Golf R's in Calgary.

That ST interior looks pretty cheap (lots of hard shiny plastics?). And no dead pedal? Or is it just too dark to see?

It's all soft touch plastic, there's no shiny dead pedal but there is a spot for your foot.

It's a niche car... the difference between a WRX and STi is $8g, yet STi's still sell.

Also anything over $40k and you would probably be crazy not to get the M235 xdrive or S3 or GLA45 or CLA45

I'm getting old but still want something to toy around with.

It's hard with this car as at least in the illustration it is so "boy-racer"

Would love to have an RS3 as an alternative.

What's that button beside the ESP Off button? Mine just has the ESP, I wish we had more options like the Euro ones.
Would've been nice to get those seats here in NA, I wouldn't mind paying extra for those.

I've wanted a hot hatch for as long as I can remember. However never wanted to spend STI money. Hopefully this comes here and is affordable, then I might pick one up. But shit I hate buying new. Buying a used turbo sucks more though.

That's the suspension setting. In Europe, you can get adjustable suspension to make it stiffer.

Not really sure but it may be similar to Audi's magnetic suspension setup.

Repair costs are zero if nothing goes wrong, for any brand.

Not saying that's the case with everyone, but based on my personal experience and within my circle of friends/family/colleagues, the better made cars have proven themselves to cost FAR less to maintain and own aside from perhaps having more expensive tires to replace.

These days, everything is pretty reliable. I wouldn't be concerned with much.

And it's "cheaper" :)

i have worked for several dealerships and i beg to differ, something ALWAYS, eventually, breaks. Doesnt matter who made it, until your paying your repair bill, why pay a premium for stupid fukin status cars? My opinion, feel free to make your own:thumbsup:

I could see this being right at the 40-45k mark putting it right with evo/sti points but a bit more power and rarity.
