I have a asus g51 jx-a1 laptop and the spacebar and E letter keys are intermittently working/not working randomly.

Anyone know how to fix this or do I need a new keyboard ?

Intermittent keys normally indicate a hardware problem. That is, a problem with the keys themselves, or the keyboard is failing.

If there are crumbs under the keys, compressed air should be be able to blow them out. ailing that, you could gently pry off the keys and clean the switch and the underside of the keys. Warning though, if the key clip breaks, the key won't go back on again, so I'd wait for a second opinion on that.

Was anything ever spilled on the keyboard?

Don't lift keys on a laptop as you can do more damage than good. Just blow it out really good and if it doesn't fix it you'll need a new keyboard.

I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance the clips will break. If the compressed air doesn't help, then there's not much to lose by prying off the key and cleaning it and the switch (it might just be gummed up). If that doesn't help, then yes, get a new keyboard, and in the mean-time, use an external keyboard, or just rest the keys into position.

You will have to open up the laptop and possibly reseat the keyboard connector. Apparently this model has issues with keyboard flex - which can result in issues like this.

Yeah I noticed it does have some flex in it, so maybe the wire is barely making contact when it does work.

Well guys, this was a used laptop and I'm guessing this is why he sold it. I took one close look and it was missing a screw for the keyboard spot. I put it back in and it works perfect now
