Shook trees off when I got home and they're fine. Shrubs on the other hand are looking rough.

None so far and I can't shake them clean. Tons of trees broke in the hood.

We shook some of the snow off the trees, they are all pretty droopy now.
I think one tree may be permanently damaged which is awesome considering we had one tree die over the winter.

Many of our trees have a ton of berries, or crabapples, pears, so the branches were really drooping. Went out with an 18 foot pole and smacked as many as I could reach, none broken so far.

If they are still the same when I get home tonight the one tree in my backyard has branches almost touching the ground.

2 days ago I could walk underneath it.

Thanks for the advice. Shook all the snow off my trees, and they're looking pretty decent.

That will be like trying to blow clay off of them, but good luck.

We lost a tree last night. The stupid thing just broke off and fell right over from the base, right onto the fence posts I just put in on Saturday.

So, if my trees topple over onto a neighbors house and causes damage to their home, who is liable?

Would I have to claim their damage on my home owners policy?

My trees are nowhere near that growth stage, but seeing all this damage has me thinking.

Bitch Please. My trees can bend down, touch the ground, and then stand back up again. Not like your old ass brittle trees that are too scared to bend an inch, or they'll throw out a hip.

:werd: While I was brushing the snow off my wife's Jeep, I heard 3 branches and/or trees crack in the vicinity.

My lilac trees are 12' tall, and were touching the ground this morning :nut: . I gave them a shake, but it only lifted a couple of feet.

BRUTAL day here. Huge branches are snapping off everywhere by the minute. First our phone, cable and Internet go down. "That's fine...I downloaded a ton of movies last night so we'll make it a "movie day" and stream through to the TV. 10 minutes later we've lost our power. fuuuck! ! That was over two hours ago. Tethering off the phone right now but Internet is slow as fuck, and can't even upload to photo bucket. So I'll just attach for now. Why can we only attach one photo at a time??
This is just one of dozens that are snapped in and around our yard.

No I don't have a generator. But we might have to move into our trailer for heat and lights tonight if this keeps up. Data connection seems fucked with my phone. I can't refresh. Can't download apps from the Play store. Wife's Telus phone can't connect. I phone Bell and tech support gives me this as an answer: "well sir, it could be your phone, could be our cel towers, it could be a major Internet trunk line having problems....be patient and try again tomorrow" :banghead: WTF?!!! That much I can figure out on my own, thanks Bell tech support!!

The city had recently estimated the value of it's "urban forest" at $335 million dollars. Wonder how much of that got taken out in this storm. Even a few percent is tens of millions of dollars in "value".

Not my house, but there's a park/field they were working on during the summer down the street from my house. They planted a bunch of new trees there. Pretty sure most of them are damaged which is sad since I doubt it'll be high priority to get them replaced/fixed.

Our crab apple tree got tipped over. It took a while for it to actually get rooted but last year it finally started to shape up. And now it toppled over...:banghead:

Do I just cut off the snapped off branch or do I have to cut the whole tree down?

I came home to some large branches in the street that were swerved around all day. I take the sawsall to them and throw them to the side of the sidewalk so people can drive past. Eat dinner, and some jackass takes the trees from his house and puts them in the spots I just cleared. Different species of tree FFS...so pissed but I don't think I'll move those.

Not even sure which house did it.

So reading on the City of Calgary website...

"Alternatively, tree debris can be cut into 4-foot pieces in length and stacked beside waste and recycling carts to be picked up with regular collection or at a later date, depending on our resources."

Does this mean I just cut up my broken tree and then throw it out into the street where I normally leave my bins on garbage day?

I kind of want to chop it up tomorrow and put it out on the street, but my garbage day is not until Wednesday and I'm on a bus route.

For the CoC to pick up any downed tree/limbs, you first have to determine if it was a CoC owned tree - I know that two of the four trees in our front yard as well as the two lilac bushes in our front yard are owned by the CoC. Fortunately, our 60+ year old trees came away pretty much unscathed aside from two - 2" diameter branches coming down.

So once you have determined whether or not your trees are owned by the CoC, then you can make a 311 report to have the CoC come and either clean-up or pick up the downed trees/limbs. Trees in your back yard are usually owned by yourself meaning you're on the hook for any clean-up.

As far as determining the ownership status of the trees in your front yard (or side yard if it abuts a street) , I can't help you. I just know the status of the trees/bushes in my yard, can't even remember how I cam into such information, possibly the real property report from when we purchased our home some 18 years ago.

Link (http://www.calgarycitynews.com/2014/09/city-responds-to-early-snowfall.html) to CoC web site regarding downed trees.
