So my asian son by another mother goes out the back of our house tonight, out the side patio door and comes face to face with a very surprised skunk on the side of our house. He retreated very quickly back into our house and didn't see the skunk spray but we now have a home that does smell inside tonight.

We've got multiple candles burning all over the house, have boiled vinegar, have got bathroom fans running because they're pushing air out and have kept the furnace off because it draws outside air in. Things are bearable but any additional suggestions would be very welcome.

Haven't ventured outside because we don't want to risk bringing in more smell or surprising the same skunk if they're still around.

If your bathroom fans are exhausting air they would be bringing outside air in as well, no?

Minimal because all the air they'd bring in would come through closed windows and doors. The furnace is the biggest drawer of fresh outside air.

This happened to my mom while walking our dogs. The whole neighbourhood stank for a week. The smell seems to dissipate in the house over time but it does linger. I don't think they did anything different, just waited it out. But keeping the windows closed as it was worse outside.
Wash the clothes and rinse yourself off with the right stuff to ensure you're not spreading it.
Look to get some air filters to help remove the smell from the furnance system.

Had a skunk by the house yesterday too. Stink is gone now though. Pew.

Why is the fact that he is asian or from another lady relevant to the story. :nut:

Had one of the fuckers living under my house. Also, one of the fuckers decided to die. Found out that they found a way thru a crumbling part of stucco and into the exterior cantilever off the foundation. Had to open up the wall, and pull the dead fucker out.

NOT amused. :whipped:

Apparently skunks are numerous in calgary this year.

The big question is does he introduce his other child as "my white son from my legitimate marriage"

Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda is the only thing that will work. Google it, make it, put it in a spray bottle and spray the affected areas.

My dog was sprayed and came in and rolled all over in one area of the house. I assumed it would just dissipate over time, I'm imagining at the atom level, particles must dissipate until there are no skunk particles left, nope, it lasts forever. My sister came over made the formula and magically the smell instantly went away.

Running joke in the family and he's quite cool with it. He is asian and is by another mother - we sort of adopted him because Mom just wasn't cutting it as a parent.
