I've been considering a late model E30 325 for quite some time now. I'm particularily intrigued by the ix. Anyone on here own or have owned one in the past?? Just wondering if there are any specific problems with their 4-wheel system.

Also, are the E30's in general bad for maintenance? I've heard that they are bad for maintenance especially since you'll have a hard time finding one with less than 150,000kms. I also like doing some mechanical myself (Thats one reason why I love VW soo much) and was wondering how easy/hard they are to work on. Are they better left to the pros??
Thanks

I would say in general BMWs are hard to work on, but I'm not sure, and this would only be complicated by an all-wheel drive system. Again, I've never had a bimmer so I don't know. But I have seen a few IXs and they are nice - it would be a great car to own in this city! My dad's friend had one and had nice things to say about it before trading it for a 95 M5.

Ask rob from tunerworks (E36S50B32 on Beyond...he's owned many BMW's and has a great knowledge amd fondness for the E30's...

Hope that helps...better to ask the doctor instead of the nurse ;)

My first car was an E30 325 - I didn't find maintanence to be THAT much more expensive, and it was a very reliable car while I had it. These things can go forever too - My uncle owned an E30 318 that hit over 350k

Actually .. E30 is very very good car !
The 325IX is nice looking too ! all with Nice BMW factory body kit !

The problem is .. hard to find a 5 sp manual, and some of those cars, were used for olympic sponser ....

I used to hv one few yr ago, the engine was very strong, tranny (auto) good..car is very solid, compare to Japanese car !
Their AWD system work very well as well ( 1/3 power to front wheels, 2/3 to rear )

Maintanence cost is reasonable too, but will cost more then a RWD E30,before u buy, just check the AWD system, see if any leak, front ball joints, head gaskets .. etc ... but if you are looking a AWD car, you probaby expect higher maintanence cost anyway .. and a E30 325iX will be so much more realiable then any Audi awd ( for same yr ) and cost less to fix !

325iX wasn't a popular model, they costed $50,000 back then(with "few" options and it costed $8,500 more then a RWD 325 ! )

If you can find a good one, low kms .. will offer you lots of fun ! and .. can hv the Loyalty for owning a nice BMW !

P.S. make sure you are not going to buy one from the east ! rust rust rust ! I still miss mine ! :D

Oh .. by the way, there is no M5 in 1995 .. ;)

You're right about Canada (and the U.S.), but cor_upt didn't say his dad's friend who traded for the M5 was in Canada.
