As the title says, anyone have cameras mounted to their bikes/helmets? What's out there for bikes? Some shitty driver cut me off on the way home (in a school zone, no less), giving me no distance to brake and I ended up rear ending him/her before hitting the pavement as a result. It would have been really nice to get that on video.

same question. my wife bikes to and from work and has near misses all the time. yesterday she lost her saddlebag on route. would have been nice to see where it was lost. she needs front and back.

I bought the Sony action cam recently. The video quality is pretty good. The problem is that the battery doesn't last very long, ~2hrs or so. For commuting, you are probably ok. You can get cheap spare battery from DX. GoPro's battery is no better from what I read. I just hate the boxy GoPro shape.

The new go-pro versions have a $149 one, battery is supposed to be good for 2.5 hours.

I have a GoPro and have used it for commuting. Usually just put it on the handlebar or helmet, both work fine. I don't use it as often as I'd like because I have several different bikes I use to ride to work and it's a pain to keep switching it. Any of the action cams are fine really. Shimano has one out now too that's supposed to be good.
Anyway, hope you're ok D'z

I use a Garmin Virb. Video quality is pretty good. Battery lasts ~2 hours (they say 3, bullshit). If you have ant+ accessories like heart rate, cadence etc. you can have it overlayed on the video. Also built in GPS so you can see where you've been. Sleeker than a GoPro as well.

SJ4000 is a 100 dollar go pro clone that works very well. Comes with a handlebar mount among other mounts.

Did you end up getting anything? After having a close encounter with a dick in a minivan I'm thinking of picking one up.

Absolutely - I bought a cheap bullet cam on eBay for 50$ shipped. Works on the motorcycle and the bicycle helmet the same. Its water resistant.

foxoffer.com has a few bullet style cams. Most even do loop recording and what not if you want something that's weatherproof but functions as a dashcam.

No, I haven't yet. Since I'm pretty much done biking for the season, I figured I'd just keep an eye out for a second hand GoPro or something over the winter. I never did find that $150 GoPro you mentioned. I'll definitely have something before the spring.

That actually looks pretty good and the reviews are favourable. I might get this. Does anyone know if GoPro accessories are compatible with this?

I have a Gopro and an Sj4000. All the mounts are interchangeable. The housing for the cameras are different though.

This is the new $150 one, for $70 more than a knockoff I'll probably just go with this and get a warranty.
