I cant figure this out and Im over it.

2 computers - windows 7 and vista.

I believe its the internet that slows down every other program. I dont have much running at one time either.

Sometimes I can use hte internet (firefox) but eventually have to close the window and restart the program for it to run a normal speed. Also can happen with IE as well

Other times... it just runs slow all day.

Ive used ccleaner - all my virus scanners (which Ive had for years). I defragment also. i havent downloaded anything new.

I did try google chrome when it first happened but didnt like all the spyware.

CAN ANYONE HELP>>> PLEASE?

thanks

Your best bet to be certain is simply just to reformat and wipe everything. Easier than spensing hours troubleshooting

Thanks..

It wouldnt have anything to do with internet connection then? I dont have the best.

One computer is only 2 years old, I barely use it and it doesnt have much on it. So reformatting wouldnt be that much of a hassle.. but I cant figure out why both are so slow and why they started at exactly the same time.

Custom-level malwarebytes scan + ESET online scanner (check off all the options for a thorough clean) usually takes care of 98% of issues like these.

http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Chances are your browsers are loaded with addons, extensions, plugins etc. that slow everything down.

IMO Norton, AVG and Mcafee are the 3 worst products to "protect" your PC. They are expensive, intrusive and resource hogs in general.

thanks

I do use malwarebytes.

I dont have many addons, extensions, plugins. They all are either disabled or set to "ask to activate"

mcafee site adviser is all that runs.

So if you think this is a cause - should I delete them including the adviser?

I like it since it lets me know what sites are safe (supposively)

thanks again

To be honest you really haven't given us any real information. No information regarding computers. No information regarding ISP. No information regarding how you connect to your ISP..

In otherwords without any proper information we can't help you in any way.

both are windows - vista and 7.

I connect wirelessly thru verison dsl. I had a horrible connection awhile back and was given a better modem which I can see a positive effect... until this started happening.

thanks

Reset one browser to factory (no addons), or try the browser in safe mode.
Remove anything to do with Mcafee.

Run ESET after or before (but not during) the Malware CUSTOM scan (which most people never do).

Run a hardline speedtest and see if youre getting what you pay for each month.

Given that both computers started slowing down at the same time, I would also suspect an infection. As a first step though, unplug your router for a few seconds. If that doesn't help, then as Rev mentioned, run MB and Eset.

Another option is to check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode With Networking.

EDIT: There are two programs that you can run that will clean out the browsers much better than just about anything else. AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool.

depending on add-ons firefox is known to have a memory bleed which could be bogging your machine down. not sure about the IE end of it...
