Motor Trend really has a knack for finding boring people to host their videos.

Epic drive?

Motor Trend really needed some help on this - I would of offered up the following 6 drives as being way more epic...

Kicking Horse Campground up to Takakkaw Falls - so much fun and would be insane if closed course http://goo.gl/maps/Ot5WX (zoom in - Google maps apparently doesn't know about this road)

Barriere, BC to Adams Lake, BC - two lanes of curvy, swoopy elevation changes covering 57km http://goo.gl/maps/tIUH8

100 Mile House, BC to Interlakes shopping area, BC via Horse Lake Road - another 37km of amazing 2 lane blacktop http://goo.gl/maps/h33kS

Little Fort, BC to Highway 97 south of 100 Mile House, BC - 97km of fun http://goo.gl/maps/Syg7U

70 Mile House, BC to Lone Butte, BC via North Bonaparta Road, North Green Lake Road and Watch Lake Road - 43km of paved goodness
http://goo.gl/maps/rpHBi

Little Fort, BC to Clearwater, BC via Dunn Lake Road - another hidden 39km paved back route goodie that includes an old fashioned reaction ferry (current driven cable ferry - 1 of 5 left in BC) http://goo.gl/maps/1p1hR

Found all of these because I like to explore when in unknown regions - along the above roads one can find abandoned gold mines, ice caves, high end christian camp mountain hideaways, low end & really scary christian camp getaways (almost cult-like looking) and fabulous fishing spots.

For those not afraid of a little gravel, try Little Fort, BC to Birch Lake, BC via Eakin Creek Road - 32km of mostly dirt/gravel that used to be the main road, beautiful scenery and nicely off of the beaten track. A chainsaw and cable/chain would be a good thing to have as trees do come down on this road http://goo.gl/maps/i2PHi

Lillooet to Pemberton is a pretty good drive, and if you are heading to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal, actually quicker than the "normal" route. http://goo.gl/maps/Bo8wJ

While being a nice drive there are a lot of hairy parts on that road that going at high speeds would be bad.

Yep the Duffy is fantastic. Definitely the best paved road I've driven ( that is until I drove Utah Hwy 12 from Escalante to Torrey last month :poosie: ).

Who cares?

The fact remains that the roads depicted in that video really aren't epic roads when it comes to rating a road on how enjoyable it is for purely being driven on from an auto enthusiast's view.

If sweeping or awe inspiring vistas are an important part of one's driving experience, then those would probably be considered epic roads but to me scenery comes second to the actual road and the enjoyment I can get by pushing a vehicle and myself to hit the corners, curves and everything else just right.

An epic drive should also be a road that doesn't have much other traffic to interfere with one's own progress as well - that said, do we have truly epic roads in Alberta? I can't think of many and especially so when one figures in low traffic counts - possibly the paved two laner out in Cypress Hills that goes down into the Spruce Coulee reservoir but it's under 5km and is not really all that challenging from a driver's perspective. Similar but a bit longer is the drive into Reesor Lake in Cypress Hills. There's also so 2 lane roads down in Waterton Parks although RVer's will hinder one's progress and there are a few 2 lane roads that come over the Porcupine Hills. The 2 lane road into Wayne, Alberta out in the Drumheller Valley can be fun as well as the paved portion of the Forestry Trunk Road up through Waiporous Village - problem is any of these roads are tame compared to the ones I listed above in BC, mostly because southern Alberta's topography isn't all that suitable for epic roads.

In Calgary, hardly anything - the curves from WB 16th Avenue NW onto University Drive NW are fun but again, just too little - BC's where it's at and unfortunately it's parts of BC that are off of the beaten track that offer up the most epic roads IMHO..

Highway 40 is a pretty epic drive for high powered cars. I'm wondering how they were able to close off the highway, or if that was just BS.

Haha I've met the girl in that video. Boring host though, he did a drive in an SLS through Oregon and it was so random and weird.

Sweet to see AB on Motortrend though.

Epic at speeds that are most likely well above the posted limits - 100 Mile House, BC to Interlakes shopping area, BC via Horse Lake Road (37km) http://goo.gl/maps/h33kS is epic because one doesn't have to speed excessively. This road is full of curves that either dip and go up over hills, tight corners, long sweepers, wonderful pavement - fun in any type of a vehicle and more horsepower just means more fun. It's just too bad this great albeit short stretch of road is a 10 hour drive away.

Animated drive throughs of some of the roads I posted above - one might have to pause and the play or fool around with the frame rate option to make them play smoothly...
