Well I've had the same watch for the last 12 years and Its time to replace it and after spending the last 2 hours looking at stuff I can't seem to find something that I like enough to justify the price most places ask. With all the watch enthusiasts here I figured this would be the place to ask.

What I'm looking for

-~40mm overall diameter
-carbon fiber face (or some kinda Iridescent or chameleon type)
-stainless band (mostly polished maybe with some black accents)
- has to have a bezel that rotates (use as a timer)
-has to have a date window (preferable over another dial)
-no digital time (hands only)
-no wind ups or whatever the ones you have to shake are called.
-drip proof (I'm not looking to dive with the thing I just wanna be able to wash my hands and not wreck it)
-<1000$

I'm not a brand snob and it doesn't have to be super high end as long as it meets the basic requirements set above.

and what are places charging to have a watch polished these days? can they do anything with the crystal over the face? As my old one has 2 small scratches that really annoy me.

stretch the budge a little and I would say Oris. (however these are all mechanical)

Can't go wrong with any citizen eco-drive... got one for 7years, maintenance free and still rocking :bigpimp:

I wouldn't shy away from automatics if its your only watch... they will hold "charge" from normal wear and the power will last 20-50hrs or so if its not worn. Seiko would be my recommendation for budget and feature... just not sure about the carbon face... but for the rotating bezel you are pretty much limited to just dive watches

Maybe checkout a chrono offering from lum-tec, they are all quartz (battery, no winding) and will give you your timer without the bezel

I've never had such a hard time spending money. I've looked online quite a bit today and still haven't found something. the automatic/mechanical is a deal breaker unfortunately as I am lucky if I wear it once a week so I would basically need a second watch to always be setting this one. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I found this one that I really like the look of but again its a automatic. Never heard of the company though.

The closest thing I can come up with that fits most of your criteria that I could come up with is a Citizen Calibre 8700

Only thing it doesn't have is the rotating bezel, but it's a chronograph so you still have a timer function. It's an Eco-Drive so it's solar powered. A full charge will get you months of power.

There's a formula 1 Tag Heuer on kijiji for $700. Might be a good alternative to brand new.

well I think we have a winner, this checks all the boxes and then some. Now i spent all afternoon trying to track one down as it seems its discontinued. I have found a couple 6101 which i dont want it has to be the 6102 as I have to have the metal band.

all their current offerings that look similiar either have a rubber band or aren't quartz.

I found one on amazon.COM but it says wont ship to canada. Any issues having it shipped to the border and bringing it across?

Seems to allow me to checkout with a Calgary address and shows a shipping rate. I didn't proceed beyond that and complete the transaction though. :dunno:

^I've done that before, but then I got an email stating it can't be shipped to Canada and they just returned my money. This was for some sunglasses, but it will be the same issue, I guarantee it.
