Honda anything esp. S2000?

Dishonourable mention: AMG

Fox body EFI 5.0 Mustang's (5 speed.)

LT4 powered Camaro's/Corvette's (rare!)

I also agree on S2000's. People always seem to be
asking absurd money for those things.

Anything not American or Korean is generally pretty good from what I've seen.

The larger German cars aren't great for value holding either (7 series, E/S class, etc.), exceptions being M/AMG/S/RS cars.

American luxury SUV/Sedan has got to be the absolute worst. If there are some recent figures I'd be curious to see them.

Lexus, Honda, Acura, Toyota, BMW M, some MB AMG, Audi S/RS are pretty good for holding value. Acura MDX and TSX holds insanely well too. Subaru is up there as well I think.

Another rule of thumb is the cars that lots of people want, but are too cheap to buy in any given general segment. For example the GTI, WRX, TSX, etc. Everyone wants a GTI at a Civic price, and it doesn't work like that, so it keeps resale nice and high.

Older lambos, ferraris, heck they even go up when you get the correct model... F40 for example

"The car debuted with a factory suggested retail price of approximately US$400,000 in 1987 ($830,000 today), although some buyers were reported to have paid as much as US$1.6 million. 1,311 F40s were manufactured in total."

I've read and heard that fj cruisers had the highest resale value. I don't know if that will hold true or go up now that they have been discontinued

Our 2003 Honda CR-V sold for 30% of it's new price after 10 years & 150,xxx KM's on the clock. There's no way in hell my Ram half ton is going to keep that kind of value...lol.

Edit - Which is why I didn't buy the truck new.

S2k's dropped in value hard maybe 5-6 years ago (when everyone was bringing them in from the States) and since then they've started to climb back up.

- Honda CRV

I think my 08 911 has held its value pretty good compared to pretty much anything else I have owned. Paid high 80s for it 2 years ago I think it could still get high 70s today. :dunno:

I drive a lot and would love to get into a vehicle where I own it for 2-3 years and put on 40-60k and sell it for close to same price. I'm not that picky.

Toyota Tacomas and highlanders were selling used for much higher than new, this was back in 2008 though.

But in general I've found that Toyota trucks and SUVs tend to have a pretty high resale values.

I'd have to agree. They didn't make many turbo FC's and they seem to be holding their value quite well. Same with LHD FD's although I haven't been watching the market on those as closely.

That is the 2nd gen V6 that suffered the headgasket issue. The 3.4 V6 in the 3rd gen was one of the best and designed by Hino.

That being said I have to say any air cooled Porsche seems to have skyrocketed in value over the past 4-5 years.

Anything that's old - bought my 80 El Camino in 83 for $5500, sold it in 2013 for $3500. It was still in quite good condition for it's age and probably the fact that it was a numbers matching vehicle and relatively rare now that contributed to it's value - had it been in it's prime condition it would have been worth probably more then I paid for it.

Same goes many 30+ year old vehicles - most of them have been crushed/recycled and any decent examples these days will fetch same good numbers. Case in point, I wonder what a really nice 2 door 1977 Honda Civic hatch would be worth these days - new they were what, $3000 or less. A well taken care of example would probably fetch at least it's new price these days if not more - nothing special back then but quite rare now.

If we are just talking nameplates: Honda, Toyota/Lexus, Subaru. That is it. All other brands have fairly high levels of depreciation however specific models in many brands can have high value depending on their exclusivity, desirability used.

Tacomas are ridiculous. When we bought ours I looked at a lot, and most that we're 2 years old and 36k were typically $1000 less then new. I'm not sure if they're selling at that price, but made my buying new feel a lot more secure.

Most used truck prices are totally out of whack for amount of miles or age. Lots of pissing and moaning going on at the bulletin board in camp or around the office on kijiji.

"What!? He wants that much for that truck!? Thats crazy! Maybe worth half that!"

The funny thing is, its those same people that buy something, use it for a while, and then list it at an outrageous price.

Used cars are definitely the better deal if you are looking at preserving your initial "investment", but then if it is a daily driver, maintenance and repairs could decrease the benefit.

If you are looking new car, Mercedes C400 has a 3 year residual of 67% right now which is crazy high. And I think they might be right because the car looks great and drives great and is way better than the old C Class. It might be one of the best new cars to buy right now for resale assuming they are correct.

Unfortunately if you want to lease, they are at 4.9% which is too high imo. A fully loaded one had over $9k interest in 3 years which is too much imo. If you bought it out at the end of 3 years it would be almost $80k spent.

4th gen f bodies..particularly 98-02 models with the LS1 power plant. I bought mine for $9900 bone stock 2 owners with 113000 kms. Sold it 3 years later with 150000 kms for $7500. With a worn out clutch and driver's window motor on the way out. I guess a lot of it depends on how well you maintain the cosmetics. Particularly the paint and interior. No pets, food, smoking. Wash and wax regularly. That helps keep the value over a black foot trailer park special .

I still say that 86-93 fox bodies, especially cobras and LX's (5 speeds) hold their value really well. Provided that they aren't abused and rusty. They are really rare to find with low mileage and in good shape here.

As for 03/04 cobras I tend to agree with Shlade. They do hold value to an extent, but I wonder how many of them sell for 25-30 grand. Maybe a mysti chrome vert. I'd expect to get lower 20's for one. They sit on kijiji for months.

Integra Type R & Good condition LHD 240 sx's seem to hold their value well.

I have noticed Subaru' cars hold value very well, high resale prices.

80's, and 60's El Camino' hold there value if they are in good shape, and even if they're rough, they hold their value.

In my experience, I have noticed that GM G body car have held their value fairly well.

Another vote for the 4R. Bought a 2014 Trail in February of 2014, wife hated it, sold it in August for $1500 less than I paid. Any other vehicle and it would have been a financial bath.

Thats because there are specific buyers for them. There are a surprising amount of people who don't realize the potential of these cars. Just because they sit on the market for a bit sometimes doesn't mean that the value isn't there.

When I bought mine I was searching for about 3 months to find the one I wanted as they are hard to find in Canada. I almost went down to the states to buy one but ended up finding one in Edmonton. I sold it 3 years later (had it on the market for about a month) for $500 less than I paid. And I felt that I slightly overpaid in the first place....

I wonder why Subaru holds value so good. Besides AWD+Canada. I also wonder how many of them actually sell at listed price, and for those that don't, how much they actually sell for on the used market.

08-14 STi = ej257's blowing at random.
2.2/2.5 N/A motors that pop head gaskets left right center.
Weak sauce 5spd trannys mated to turbo motors.
Something about the 3.0 H6 in Outback.
Excess carbon build up, hard to get at spark plugs.
"Antifreeze conditioner" a regular maintenance additive as suggested by Subaru, even sold by Subaru?

FR-S/BR-Z
S2000 (these are going UP in price!)
6spd 350Z/G35Coupe retaining value like crazy, they refuse to devalue anymore.
K20Z3 Honda Civic Si (07-11)
Scion TC
Any Lexus
Acura holds value pretty good especially any with SH-AWD, and the 07/08 TL Type S which isn't budging, maybe even going up in value a little.

The G8 GT/GXP and 04/05 GTO.

Corvette C5/C6, C6's I would imagine have taken quite a tumble though just with the C7's in the picture now.

in a straight? no shhh. The JDM one could do low 14s (200hp/2350lbs) and that's as good as it gets, stock. I would still love to get one, just not if I had to DD it. I don't think I could stand the super high final drive, having to rev up to make useful power, and shift a lot just to keep up with everyone else around me. That sounds like a dream track toy though.

I've seen GC8 WRX run 14s at Castrol. I've seen an FR-S repeatedly run 17s. Its all relative.

Bought my NSX in 2005 and sold it in 2007 for the same price, my car was for sale this summer in Ontario for the same price I sold it for in 2007.

964s, my first two I couldn't give away, my third I sold this year I had everyone all over North America begging to buy it.

Viper SRT-10 - They maintain value but it was very hard to sell, felt like I couldn't give mine away.

996 Turbo - Sold it this year for a couple thousand less than I bought it for three years ago.

Elise - Sold for more than I bought it for after a year.

I lost money on modifications but modifications don't seem to effect resale value in my experience.

964s, my first two I couldn't give away, my third I sold this year I had everyone all over North America begging to buy it.

Viper SRT-10 - They maintain value but it was very hard to sell, felt like I couldn't give mine away.

I wish, as much as I love them I couldn't justify $60,000 for one.

You're about 3 years late... not getting even an OK 964 Turbo for $60k.

I know a guy with a 964 Turbo S Package car... He was recently offered a new 918 Weissach, plus cash as a trade. He declined... A rising tide lifts all boats.

so he was offered a $900k car plus cash as a trade for a turbo 964. I believe you, especially since i can google and find them going for 300-400k :)

Turbo S is very rare. Especially if it's 3.6 turbo S instead of he 3.3 turbo S
I'm not agreeing with the statement above or anything.

CodyD, 3.3 turbo are well over 60 now. 80-90 now.

Another car that holds their value Datsun S30Z. Prices are climbing, like initial D tax.

I don't blame someone like you for not even knowing what the car is. After all, it's very rare, often considered a 'grail' car to Porschephiles... You know, those guys that actually appreciate the authentic cars rather than waste their time and money on frankenstein pretend-mobiles... But I digress...

The 1994 964 3.6 Turbo S Package car is the rarest 911 Turbo model ever; 1 of 17 produced (14 reportedly remain), air cooled, last of the rwd Turbos, slant nose delete (more true "Porsche", less controversial). This being a one-owner, low mileage car, I came to understand his position - you almost certainly can't replace this car and he sure doesn't need the money, so what would the motivation be? He bought the 918 anyways, so in the end, it was a win-win for him.

Please forward results of your google searching. I'm sure he will buy any and all 964 Turbo S Package cars that you can forward in the $3-400k range... Fuck, I'm sure I could even get you paid you a finders fee.

Was this '94 3.6 S in Calgary?

I saw a red one in SoCal at Cars and Coffee a few years ago. The factory Speedline wheels were all scuffed up.

Don't think I've ever seen one in Calgary before.
