Anybody know which one is suitable for Calgary climate ? Some websites colder climate should have HRV and some say ERV ?

Also anyone know any good installers in calgary ? And how much price are we looking at ?

I have a HRV unit in my place. Can't tell you too much as it was included by the builder...

Do you run it all round the year ? Does it maintain humidity levels too ?

I'm installing a lifebreath model for a friend's sister's suited basement. I'm going to install an electric preheat coil for the o/a intake. I think its about $1200 for the 2 units alone. Still have to run all new galvanized pipework at an additional cost. It will run basically 20min-on/40min-off.

Everything I've read says ERV makes sense for warmer humid climates. So for Calgary, go with an HRV.

ERVs make sense on either end of the humidity spectrum. In Calgary an ERV would recover the extra humidity put into household air that would otherwise be lost using an HRV as it draws in dry air from outside.

The only machine I was able to actually measure any kind of energy recovery on was a Lossnay ERV.. Most of the other brands i've run into had so little energy recovery, that discharge air temp was essentially ambient outdoor air temp,so the reheat ran constantly, or they had to be cycled off during cold snaps on an ambient thermostat.
