Hi All,

Anyone have experience with Samsung Fridges; we're looking and after doing some reading online, I'm not sure if Samsung is the way to go for a Fridge as opposed to Kenmore or Frigidaire.

Appreciate thoughts around your experience....

That's a very broad request. All brands have good models and crap models. It's not a very accurate assessment to generalize a whole brand. Would be better if we knew what kind of unit/model range youre looking at.

Have one, 4 door french door model stainless model, about 4 months old now and its OK. Fairly quiet, decent use of space. Two complaints; an oscillating high pitch noise when the compressor is running, could be an early fan bearing failure and may or may not be warranty. And the stainless shows finger marks like crazy, some other brands have a coating that greatly reduces the finger smudging on the stainless finish. I would go with a smudge free finish if I were to do it again.

Just a heads up, Kenmore brand is made from numerous other manufacturers including Samsung. You need to look at the model number to figure it out.

I have a Samsung fridge. Have had it for nearly two years. It was also a display model prior. No issues of any kind so far.

i have a samsung fridge about 2 years old now. french doors. no water.

i live in an old house so when it was delivered all doors had to come off to get it to fit in. then a year later i renod the kitchen and all doors had to come off again to get it out and into the living room where we lived out of for a few months. then doors off again to put back in kitchen.

everything still works as it should and no complaints.

I also have a French door model for 2ish years now. Water on the inside which is awesome. And no complaints, it's done fridge duties well so far.

I got the 23. 5 cu ft for my condo. It's the best fridge I ever had. I love everything about it. 4 door is great. I got it for $1999.99 on sale. Holidays coming up, you might want to wait till at least you fall within the 30 day price guarantee most stores have so you can get the price difference returned if it goes on sale.

what were your apprehensions with Samsung as opposed to kenmore or frigidaire? A general ranking of brands seems to have all three brands ranked fairly close to one another, but how accurate the results are is questionable. http://www.ranker.com/list/refrigerator-brands/werner-brandes

at a glance the only bad reviews I saw with the two models you listed were excessively loud units that must have been defective units from factory that needed to be exchanged and the odd complaint that the 23.5 cu.ft one was too small. The 28cu.ft one looks very similar to our recently purchased LG unit. I wouldnt be surprised if they were made in the same factory.

Unless youre going top tier and dropping serious coin, I would guess most of the common brands in big box stores ie. LG, Frigidaire, Samsung, Kenmore etc are manufactured comparably. They certainly dont make them like they used to in terms of longevity but that's just the shift in product quality these days. As long as you dont see the majority of reviews coming back with major issues I'd say find the one that suits your needs/styling best and keep in mind most people wont take the time to chime in a review unless there is a problem. Like others suggest, get it on sale, make sure you can exchange easily with deilvery costs covered if there is a factory defect and you'll be good.

My fridge seemed to be creating a bit of unneeded noise, pulled it out a few inches and the noise reduced back to a normal amount. Also, turning down the fridge temperature allows the motor to not cycle in and out so often. We set it the day we plugged it in, never thought to adjust it down to a safe and just as healthy temperature. A packed fridge stays colder than an empty fridge I believe, Costco ensures we have it very packed.

I'd like to put some proper foam on the wall the fridge motor bounces all the noise off of, just not certain of the fire or heat issues this might cause.

From Consumer Reports USA this month:

Best Big Chill with a Smaller Price Tag

You can keep your cool for less. At $1,700, Kenmore’s 7160 was the highest-scoring CR Best Buy among conventional, three-door French-door fridges (two top fridge doors and a single bottom freezer door). Though not nearly as spacious as the Samsung, we rated it Excellent overall, with superb temperature evenness, efficiency, and quietness.

I bought this LG 28cu ft one and love it. A year old now and still working great. It has ice and water.

My friends have Samsung fridges with no complaints. I just like on mine that the ice make is in the door so it frees up the fridge.

Thanks very much for the link! Just read some reviews online about having to replace motors and water leaks within the first year; but again, not for those specific model numbers. I figured the Beyond group would give me both the bad and good :). Based on the comments so far and the other links provided, I'm less skeptical now of the brand for fridges.
