I have a couple hdmi cables that won't go into my laptop port because the ends are too thick. How do I tell while ordering online which ones fit a standard laptop?

Is it the port size, or the casing on the cable that is physically preventing you from plugging in? That part isn't clear.

Just post a pic or the model number of your laptop and it's easy to tell what type of HDMI it is.

Think his problem is that a standard Type A isn't fitting due to all the plastic around the edges.

Think your best bet it so search online to see who else has the same problem and what they recommend for that particular machine. I have an HDMI port on my laptop and any hdmi cable will fit, so "standard" laptop isn't exactly standard if you have issues fitting. What laptop is it?

EDIT: Mitsu got to it first while I was typing.

Also be careful you aren't getting mixed up with displayport/minidisplayport. I've seen people trying to jam hdmi cables into displayports before lol

It's the right size of connection, just the plastic around the edges cause it not to fit in both laptops. I can see the image then the tv says check source. So it's close but not quite

Grab a sharp knife and cut the plastic down.

Something seems weird here. Can you post a pic of the cable and laptop's HDMI port? Also, what make and model is your laptop?

The plastic casing to protect the end of the plug on some cables are never the same. Some are thicker than others which causes the exact issue they are having.
