Thanks man, I picked up the Fotodiox Wonderpana system, with their 10 and a 3 stop ND, a .9 soft GND, and the circular polarizer. Today was my first chance to get out and test them out a bit. I like them mostly, a few bugs I still need to work through.

I have shot basically nothing in December. But started editing a couple shots from a motorcycle trip we did in the fall.

I love the shot (expression!), and it printed up really well, but that stupid van completely ruins it.

Did a lot of clone stamping in PS in an attempt to remove it, but I'm not skilled enough to get it looking quite right.


If anyone thinks they can pull it off, and wants a try at it, please let me know. :banghead:

The live view is immensely better and easier to work with which I enjoy.

A couple nicety things:
- Textured rubber all the way around the body
- Quieter shutter

This ground breaking AF improvement has managed to stay rather elusive, I'm not exactly sure what to make of it. Maybe I'm too critical but when I use live view, manually focus and it looks one way perfectly sharp, and then use both live view AF and through the view finder to focus and it's never quite as perfect. I actually preferred the AF-On button and metering dial on the D800.

IQ wise, they're the same to my eye, I honestly don't notice anything though admitedly, LR5 seems to do a better job on the files using the default importer. Maybe Adobe worked on this or something, or maybe it's moving up to LR5 from LR4 where I used the D800 stuff.

Live view was basically THE reason why I upgraded and it's satisfied that reason quite well, which in some ways is annoying given they could have just done it right the first time and I wouldn't have needed to buy a new camera! Everything else is more or less the same to me :)

Mine has done this a few times as well. Gave me a heart attack the first time, I thought I'd lost a memory card and it was FULL of Nellis shots.

I really don't have much of a touch with PS editing these days. Probably partly due to the fact that I only use a MacBook for all of my edits.

Went back to the same spot by Longview (I thought Turner Valley but it's further south) and shot some night stuff plus the sunrise again. If there's another clear night I think it's better to go out in the late evening vs. early morning but different strokes.

This one needs to be brightened but SOOC I was pretty impressed with the noise reduction

Thanks for your feedback, Ryan. I'm personally one where it should look similar to what your eye sees and that's the first edit but maybe a smidgen brighter to appeal. The edits I personally think are awful and HDR'd to shit LOL
