Did a search and could not find a thread on this show.

I just watched the first two episodes of the first season last night. Looks like it will be a pretty awesome show and I've got 4 seasons to catch up on.

Anybody else watch this?

While it is no Deadwood, but what is? It is entertaining. I'm all caught up and watch it weekly. The last two seasons have been less entertaining and follows the basic drama formula, but I'm in this far. The scenery is part of the show, I also like how the background has mud and large puddles in one scene and the next camera shot has a smaller puddle of water. Also, the lighting can change awkwardly. The Norwegian Swede is probably my favourite character.

YES! :)

I like the show but my wife didn’t get into to it and quit watching it after a couple of episodes (she also really hates O’ Brien so that didn’t help! ).

Also like CanmoreOrLess mentioned she thought it was trying too hard to be Deadwood too.

Ill second that the first two seasons were the best. The third season almost made me quit watching and this last season was better.

I signed up to be an extra on the show a couple months ago. But I couldn't go because of work.

Hmm thanks for the input. Is Deadwood available on Netflix? Maybe I should start that instead of this one..

My girlfriend and I have been trying to find a new TV series for us to get into, so far we have enjoyed GoT, Walking Dead, 24 and Breaking Bad.

sexualbanana - that would of been pretty damned cool, bummer you weren't able to take the time off work to experience that.

Watch deadwood, just be prepared to be disappointed in how short it ended up being... Justified's first couple season's made up (slightly) for a need of Bullock

The whole cast from Deadwood (pretty much) is on Justified at one point in time!

How does one go about getting into Netherlands netflix?

All I know is how to turn my xbox on, select netflix, and find videos :nut:

I use https://www2.unotelly.com/home

They have a system called Dynamo. I set their DNS server in our router and when I want to switch countries I just go to the Dynamo page and select a new country.

A little problematic in Windows due to dns caching and browser caching but Safari on the mac-mini we have on our tv doesn't skip a beat between countries.

Only issue is it sets the DNS for the whole house, so if I want to watch US and the kids want Netherlands (full disney selection there) I have to set something different up...

Too true, there was no closure. We the viewers were cheated. I was so into Justified until I think the fifth season, just did not care about the characters any longer and stopped watching about the time the Hillbillies started to be less amusing.

At least the Brits have it right, they run a show for a certain number of seasons, and pack it in. I have yet to watch a Brit series that did not circle back and complete the story line. Well done. USA programs keep going until the horse is dead, there are exceptions, I can name them on two hands... I'll start with The Wire, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, True Detective, Arrested Development (other than the come back season), Boardwalk Empire...

Love it, and not even into western theme anything. But I love how its more or less historically accurate. Great acting, actors, story telling.

Bohannon is the man.

Deadwood is by far the greater show, really sucks that it ended so abruptly. Hell on Wheels is still pretty good.

The first time around I agreed with this, but the second time I watched the series I was pretty happy with how Deadwood ended. Deadwood was a lawless town, run by Swearengen. But by the end of the third season law was coming by way of Dakota Territory, and Hearst had more power with control of the mines and the backing of the Pinkertons. That was the end of the story. I'm glad it didn't get drawn out.

Bringing this thread from the dead:

Who here is part of the background cast?

I've been out there a few times already. I'm not there for the pay but for the shits and giggles. And I've always want to see how a show/movie is made.

I don't have AMC (don't even have a TV) so can't watch myself on S05E01 tonight.

I've met the actor who plays "The Swede" when he worked on Stargate Atlantis in Vancouver, a former co worker ran their prop/firearms stuff for that production, and I spent the day out with him on site while visiting him and his family, and the "Swede" had several scenes as some makeuped giant Alien. Nice guy.

I really like HOW as well, Colm Meaney is an old favorite of our household from back in his Star Trek and Deep Space Nine days. Great actor, very passionate about the Irish people and politics there, interesting person.

I did extra work when I was young and first moved to Calgary in 1992. I worked as a Canadian infantry soldier during the 1st World War on Legends of the Fall, I'm in the frame during the night charge a couple guys over from Aiden Quinn. Brad Pitt also came out with our group 2 nights during the shooting, we left a note on his chair and said we were going out to the clubs and wanted to know if he wanted to see the sights. He wanted to be driven around and shown local architecture more than party, but he came out for that a bit as well, then played basketball with us for the rest of the shooting schedule when time permitted.

The local film firearms guys working on Hell on Wheels have provided some great work, there is a youtube video on their goings on during filming, showing a lot of the interesting prop firearms they've made, including the Swede's weapons and such, I'll find it and link it here later.

I was in a bit of season three as an extra. Even got to do a "fight" scene with Common and some of the other guys. Also had a few pictures up on the AMC website that year.

Got sick of keeping a longer beard, and taking so much time off work, so I couldn't do any of the work they called me for last year.

Was a fun experience though, as I did it for the fun, not the money. Pretty cool to see yourself on tv, and since that season just came out on dvd, I had to buy it.

One sort of scary thing, the aspiring actress that got killed by her husband this winter worked a bunch on HOW as well, so I recognized her when they put the pictures in the paper recently once they charged him.

I was contacted by the art department for the show and have been cnc cutting a bunch of the props for season 5. I got to tour the set a month or so ago which was really cool
It is neat watching the new season knowing exactly where they are in the set and how intricate they make every scene. So far I have spotted 2 items that I cut for them and look forward to when I can post all the pictures that I took on set
Being an extra on the show would be really cool
I never knew how people got into that. Maybe some day. From what I know the 1st and 2nd part of season 5 will wrap filming around October.

torrent the episode

so what's it like being part of the background cast?

Saw myself on episode 1 :D There were couple other scenes on episode 1 which I was participating in but looks like they chose different angle shots for the final cut. They do film a scene half a dozen times from diff angles and then choose the best shots and sew them together.

I'm going back there in the new week sometime.

man, that's cool! can people just show up and watch while it's being filmed?

No. They also minimize the number of non-crew people (ie background cast) at the spot on the set they're shooting.

When do they film season 6? I wanna be an extra

Are you asian?

Season 5 has a lot of "chinaman" involved.

I never knew how people got into that. Maybe some day
