i've been thinking about getting a traffic receiver for my garmin gps.

anyone here have one? is it even worth it?

i know that HD traffic isn't available in canada, but the GTM60 seems to work with the other traffic system.

Any ideas how traffic data is broadcast in Calgary? My car has the data, but I have no idea how it gets it.

I'm pretty sure it's a data stream within a standard FM radio broadcast.

I wouldn't pay extra for it. My 2 Garmins came with it, can't say I've used it much.
I don't think it's anywhere as up to date as Waze or Google.

yeah my garmin has a lifetime subscription for traffic.. just wondering if it's worth spending the $70 for the antenna or not

It's useless, in my opinion. My GPS tells me that traffic is all backed up... *after* I'm already on the affected road. Not much use in that....

Guess it probably depends on model as well.

It's definitely slower in updating compared to Google Maps. It doesn't even cover Stoney Trail. Unless it already comes with the GPS, there is absolutely no point in paying extra for it.
