What would you guys recommend for around $500. I wanted a camera mostly for decent videos of Autox as well and being able to take some good car photographs. Was thinking of a Cannon DSLR.
Any thoughts?

Your budget still keeps you in the entry level stuff, but at $500 I'd be looking at these if you're just doing casual snaps and a bit of video:

The other thing you could get is a large sensor P&S with some decent manual control, but I didn't see any deals on them....$100 above budget:

Thanks alot. Looks good. Ya I am not big into photography thats why low budget. Just looking for something that is decent all around for general use.

What do you think about the Canon Rebel T5 vs the D3200?

The D3200 has more megapixel so maybe better deal?

Between those two, the D3200 is better in pretty well every single category (Autofocus, image quality, features, etc.)

Here is a quick reference if there is anything specific you want to check yourself:

Not sure what they run for now but I can't say enough good things about the Nikon AW1. I used mine for about 3 hours every day for 2 weeks snorkling in Jamaica with no problems.

This is a great site to compare specifics.

My recommendation is to get whichever brand most of your friends and family have. then you can borrow all the lens you need! Also speed the money on Glass not the body.
