Ford debuted their all-new Ford GT to replace the aging current Ford GT supercar. Opting to go with twin turbochargers in the new GT, instead of the naturally aspirated V8 in the original, Ford packs the most powerful EcoBoost engine ever under the hood. They are not releasing any specific performance figures but we are told it will deliver more than 600 horsepower to the rear wheels. The engine will be paired with a seven-speed DCT transmission. Really, the Ford GT needs no introduction. In fact during the unveil, Ford saved all the fanfare for the GT350R and just let the GT do all the talking.

The Ford GT holds a special place in my heart, but I too need to hear some specs before I get too excited.

Looks pretty good to me though. :poosie:

Nothing like making it look exactly the same to keep the indoctrinated happy.

TheGT never really did much for me.

Sounds like it will be fast though. The question is will it be light enough for 600 HP to keep it competitive, its a rough world out there right now.

Also,

Sorry kenny, but the original GT had a supercharged V8, not N/A. :D

I think the press release was quoting the "original" GT40. Which was a NA V8 in 196-whatever.

Interior shot shows a tach red limit of 9K!

For everyone who wants to hear the engine, Youtube the Daytona Prototype Ford is running this weekend in Daytona. I think car 01 and 02 are running the Ecoboost engine which the Ford GT will use.

The real question is, would current GT owners drop a supercharger for the EcoBoost?

That question will determine the used market later on.

Honestly, I'm not sure it matters to Ford or current owners. The boosted 6 is purely for GTE due to displacement restrictions making smaller turbo motors more competitive. Ford built this car so they could go racing.

I really don't see this causing a noticeable glut of first-gen GTs hitting the market. Guys who bought it as the ultimate nostalgia car will keep it, as the new one is pretty far afield from the GT40. Folks chasing the performance envelope probably sold their GTs years ago and moved on to something else.

I have no idea. I've been looking at new R8s and used GTs lately and that's what I'm basing it off of. A new V10 R8 in Canada is going to be 180k. The GT is going to be difficult to find in Canada and when you do, it ain't going to be cheap.

It looks a lot more fiddly than I thought it would. The Ford GT was gorgeous and appreciated in value rapidly because it was a super clean, timeless design that was updated in the most tasteful way possible.

This looks more like the aborted GT90 than it does the GT or GT40.

This car is actually kind of ugly. IMO they completely fucked it up

edit: not even "kind of." This car is not even remotely good looking

So I just went and took some more shots of it, and yeah, it's not very pretty up close. The design of the rear has to change and the front overhang is too long.

The more I looked at it, the less I liked it. From certain angles it's still the bees knees, but I really hope they fix a couple things before it hits production.

I love it, it looks great!

If I had to pick something, I am not too sure about those struts or whatever that come down off the roof line in the back, to the top of the rear wheel wells.

Someone told me that this car is going to be $400k, and I had to call bullshit right there. I can't see this car being in the same territory as Lambrghini Aventadors and more than pretty much every Ferrari....

I am thinking that this should price out around $180k tops.

*edit* pretty much what Cos said except I say anything over $180k is going to be a hard sell.

Ford also put the ecoboost V6 in the Raptor. While I feel it's ok there, if I'm dropping $150,000 I would want a V8, V10, or a V12. But yeah, Ford is pushing Ecoboost. Let's hope they worked out all the bugs because the F150 had some annoying check engine lights for the Ecoboost line. Everything from water getting into the motor to knock.

from talking to Rickdatuner, it sounds like the Ecoboost is remarkable engine, however there are issues with condensation, and possibly other items, but primarly condensation.

he said, these engines like to get flogged... the charged air cooler actually works and doesn't condense humidity and... whether they're lying or not, both the 3.5 and 2.7 did well in the Baja races

I really don't understand the ecoboost hate. who cares how it makes the power? 600 hp from a v8 or v6, doesn't matter... the v6 will weigh less and do it more efficiently... why wouldn't you?

How the power is made makes a big difference in the feel of the car and how it drives. A TT v6 will drive differently than an n/a or supercharged v8 (or even turbocharged v8).

For example, go and drive a car that has a turbocharged i4 that makes 400hp, then go drive a car that's a similar weight and power with a large engine, they are two completely different experiences.

That and everyone wants a 'big ole veeayyt' in their 'murican car.

tehwegz
02-01-2015, 11:51 PM
Not many complaining about how the GT-R delivers power.

Large V6 with fairly large twins is going to drink the juice a lot more heavily than N/A when you do anything more than feathering the pedals. Weight compared between motors is negligible.

But $420k? Yeah its a Ford GT, and everyone wants a piece of it even if only for how much it may be worth later on. Is this really going to be limited production and mainly for purpose of homologation?

The Lexus LFA is now all of a sudden 10x more an awesome, lovely thing to me.

Then the 3G NSX which should be a McLaren P1/Porsche 918 for fraction of cost. And the upcoming R36 GT-R which will then trump the 3G NSX/everything else.

I don't think so. I think the new NSX is a styling disaster. They gave the thing a beak! With chrome! I watched the youtube video of the unveiling in Detroit and after 5 minutes of listening to those dull, boring, executives drone on in monotones you instantly understand who screwed this thing up. They need enthusiasts (aka: car people) involved in styling and not corporate shills (aka:accountants). The only reason they gave it a beak is because they wanted it to look like the rest of their dull styled line up. I miss the days of the old NSX and interesting looking Integra. What is wrong with having a car that looks different from the rest of your lineup?

rage2
02-02-2015, 09:43 AM
I think they incorporated the beak well, but you're right, they could have styled it away from the Acura corporate design language up front.

Still, it's a beautiful car in person, even with the beak.

100% an issue of sound, to me. Not that every V8 is amazing, but I've heard so many boring V6s. I think somewhere I heard a clip of this car, and I remember thinking it sounded good so I guess I'm okay with it, but to me it has to sound cool to be cool.
