Sounds like Mibz in my old M3 haha.

Whats 0-60? Count it out on the video and it seems like it's in the 5 second range. I would assume all of that low end tq makes it feel faster than it actually is?

First impression: That 0-50 acceleration from the Tesla is insane. I had a feeling that it was faster than the Aventador from 0-50, because I never felt that kind of pressure on my chest before from accelerating. With the Tesla, it felt like a 50-lb person was laying flat on your face and chest and stays that way for a few seconds. The way the Aventador feels is like being a boat on strong waves and you keep rocking back and forth between the gear shifts. And at each gear shift, you feel like you're being tugged very heavily or kicked in the back from behind (depending on how you want to view it). The Tesla felt more like you're being dropped from the second floor but you're falling horizontally and not vertically. They're two completely different feelings of acceleration. What's amazing is that the Tesla kept up with the Aventador all the way up to around 80 mph, which is probably the highest you'd want to go anyway if you wanted to keep your driving legal.

So what does a tesla actually do for G's?

I've pulled 1.1g through first gear in my car. That aventador being the most violent launching car - wasn't even launched. Lol.

1G by Tesla.

P85D's number is similar to C7 Z06 which costs less but also carries less people.

The Tesla's big launch advantage is power at 0rpm, no clutch to ease in power, and AWD to put all that power down, so it should really beat everything on the road in terms of 60ft times. Even if some cars are faster to 60mph, the Tesla should still be ahead on the road because of the 60ft advantage. Everyone is playing catchup off the line.

I think he could go a lot faster with scantly-clad models in the seat.

Cant wait to see more electric super cars. Can you imagine the crazy designs artists could come up with a smaller power plant?
On the flip side. No fun sounds...
Suppose there is always XLR8

Plus with no engine screaming away. When people hear a roaring engine, they're body instinctively expects it.

It might have been quick, didn't feel like it at all without the accompanying exhaust notes.

Cool car and tech but I would pass. I'd take a Fisker over it at half the price when they went belly up.

Pardon my squirrely ignorance but why the drop off at 40mph? I was under the impression that electric motor put out more power the faster you spun them, or is this just the way they programmed the out put?

Thanks

That would be a complete blast to drive around town in as long as you were the first guy in line at the lights.

From 0-24mph the P85D pulls 1.32g's. It drops off significantly from there.

From what I've read the P85D pretty much kills everything off the line but from any sort of roll it is much less impressive.

The power cuts off dramatically after 40mph because the computer cuts power from the batteries at that point. Presumably it's to protect the battery or something to that effect.

Pretty crazy for a car that can seat 5+2.

To answer your question Fly Fishin'.

Electric motors make proportionately less torque the faster you spin them. See chart.

What you see in 01RedDX's Chart is the electric limits at takeoff. This is to stop wheel spin and give optimal take off. Think of it as launch control. Because 2000nm of torque would just cause massive burn outs.

The flatline between 0 and 40 is an artificial limit while from 40 onwards is the max the motor can push.

https://evmc2.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/motorcurve.gif

This is why Electric cars suck at high speed. Still insane takeoff speeds.

Elon Musk just tweeted:

Tesla P85D 0 to 60mph acceleration will improve by ~0.1 sec soon via over-the-air software update to inverter algorithm

Will the OTA update rename insane mode to suicide mode? Because that shit's crazy. I don't know how people don't have to go to the hospital after flooring it.

So marketing jargon for "we lifted the lifted the power limit slightly."
