View Full Version : Review: Oh My Dog BBQ: BEST poutine in town!

Located in Midnapore in the strip mall across from Value Village.

Their fries are hand cut and put in the fryer only after you order. IMO the cut is perfectly sized (like a bit bigger than McDs) and comes out hot and crunchy. Gravy is not salty at all and perfectly portioned unlike most places where I need to tell them to only give me half.

Their chili cheese dog is awesome as well if a little bit on the salty side. Chili is not runny and tastes like it should (no beans either! Yay!).

My combo with dog, poutine and drink (refills!) comes out to $13. I probably come here every 2 weeks and the friendly staff always knows what I order and they bring it out to you after you've sat down.

Overall rating: 8.5/10
Food: 9/10
Pricing: 7/10
Ambiance: 8/10
Service: 10/10

$13 is def steep for that but it sounds pretty damn good. I know its only a pic but that hot dog looks kinda nasty lol

It's because with this cheese dog, they throw it under the broiler for a few minutes to melt the cheese. Trust me it's fucking good..

My co-worker also tried the pull pork dog (her favorite) and the mac 'n cheese dog and liked that as well. They also have this insane OMD dog which like 3 hot dogs in 1 and costs $14. Never seen it LOL.

But yes price is a little steep considering it's *just* a hot dog which is reflected in my pricing rating. But on the flip side, poutine is a relative bargain at $6 for the full size (pic is the combo which is smaller) and that's a meal in and by itself.

$13 isn't steep at all if you go with a papa combo w/ cheese with poutine from A&W. Its about $13 as well and doesn't look a delicious!

I guess if you put it that way but IMO burgers > dogs (price wise that is, not necessarily taste wise). I suppose when I go to Harvey's and order my usual (double bacon cheese original with poutine) it also comes out to $13!

So based on this review I went over to Oh My Dog for a late lunch (just got back) and I have to agree with pretty much everything clem has to say. I even had the same meal and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to need dinner tonight. Thanks for the recommendation clem!

Eat it there though while it's hot & fresh, I don't know how this stuff would survive a 20 minute delay on the ride home. It would probably make the fries all mushy.

thumbs up for OMD. Totally destroys the puke dogs at Tubby Dog. Love the Monte Cristo Dog with strawberry jam and bacon

Too bad their location is ass. They need something more central because their product is great.

that pic shows pretty much the sloppiest stuff (not in a bad way) on their entire menu. They have a lot of nice clean dogs that won't give you the ITIS. It's a good place.

So are all of us SW'erners going to crash this place one day or what?

Mibz
02-12-2015, 06:24 PM
Got the perogie dog (sans onion :() and regular poutine. Didn't see the thread so I got it to go.

Hot dog was good. Will probably try chili next time. Poutine is fantastic, as advertised. Fries that weren't doused in gravy were still crispy, even though I took the long way home without thinking.

I'll definitely go back.

Shit, I'd even show up while other Beyonders are there.

EDIT: Oh, and fucking ice cream and milkshakes.

Awesome glad you guys like it! Would totally be up to crash the place with Beyonders LOL.

They also have a homemade burger - on my to try list. And yes old school-style shakes too. I do agree the location hurts them somewhat (I live in the far NW LOL).

You mean the big cheese poutinery? Yeah it's still there and doing well. The big smoke? poutinery is also still alive.

I'm definitely going to have to try this place. Too bad it's so far out of the way lol

Haha D'z call me up and we'll go. BCS you're not DT anymore?

What gets me is these so-called poutine places (like Poutinerie, the Big Cheese, etc..) can't touch Oh My Dog. The OMD poutine is so good I actually crave it whereas all the other places I usually want to puke afterwards.

Well that's a dick move. We checked their hours before going tonight and said they're open til 9 pm Saturdays. Got there at 8:38 pm and there was a guy in the back doing stuff but the doors were already locked and he had shut everything down. Not a good first experience. :/

max_boost
02-14-2015, 10:16 PM
Well two ways you can look at it.

- Manager: The place closes at 9 with last call probably 8:30pm, no one in the store, let's clean up and you guys can go home and bang your SO.

- Customer: WTF, 9pm. I can walk in at 8:59pm and you have to serve me, etc. (OK, in you case 8:38pm) :D

This is a good discussion. What does Beyond think? haha

Went there last night with the wife, and it was pretty tasty. $25 for two people isn't expensive as one guy put it. We had the Mac and Cheese and Chili with cheese dogs, and a regular poutine and the Loaded one as well. Much better than Tubby Dog and the crap place on 17th near Clive Burger.

Would definitely go again but order two dogs and a poutine to share. Way too much food in a combo for either one of us to finish. However, that could be a selling point for others. It was dead in there, so hopefully business picks up for them.

Alright Beyond, let's build a bit of a plan here, please post if you are fairly sure you're going to be able to make it to Oh My Dog, Friday between 11:30 & 12:00. I work close by and I think it would be prudent to give the owner a heads up if it looks like there will be more than 5 people so I'm willing to take care of that. Please add your name to the list.

Okay so here it goes..

I got the Montreal smoked meat wrap & regular poutine.

The poutine was good, but honestly I think I still like The Big Cheese better, just because I usually get the montreal smoked meat poutine and they offer more varieties of poutine. I will also note the amount of cheese was very skimpy, for mine and the boyfriend's. He got the pulled pork one.

The wrap was simple, but the smoked meat was still good. I got regular mustard instead of dijon (can't handle it lol) and had melted cheese curds.

The bf said his Texan hot dog didn't really taste like much. It's supposed to come with BBQ sauce, onion and cheese. He asked for no onion, but said the hot dog itself was about all he could taste, despite the BBQ sauce and cheese.

I think we would still go back, probably just not on a regular basis.

For some reason I can't add the picture I took.
