View Full Version : Audi people and windshield washer warning

I did research about some Audi people running into the issue of their low windshield washer warning coming on and staying on even though they just filled up the reservoir.

Turns out the sensors are sensitive and if you washer fluid like Rain-X it will leave a film on the sensor and mess up the readings. Here is what I did to correct this in my car last night:

1. Drained reservoir of the Rain-X (or just spray it all out)
2. Fill it back up with water and a little soap/laundry detergent
3. Spray it all out.
4. Refill with either the cheap blue stuff or Audi recommended fluid.

Your indicator will turn off and the sensor will be good to go. Hopefully this helps out some people. This is probably applicable to any VW owners as well.

Read about this the other day. Really frustrating when some gas stations carry Rain-X exclusively. This also applies to any VAG product.

I was using Prestone windshield de-icer and it gave me the error. I'm just going to stick with the cheap blue stuff.

I've been driving Audis for 10 years, never heard of such a problem, I was using Rain-X before for sometime but felt that it was leaving too much of a film on the glass, the film would eventually get into my chamois and micro fiber clothes, so I went back to the good ol' blue stuff, never had a washer level indicator issue with either mix

I used RainX in three of my Audi's (B5 A4, B8 A4, B8.5 S4), and not one problem.

You owned the b8 and b8.5 for a month, it takes longer for the rain -x to fuck up the sensor.

It definitely affects the b8 sensors avoid it, It screwed up my 2011 s4, I've used strictly the blue stuff in my 2014 and not had the issue.

B8.5 was 4 months, to be exact.

Owned my B5 for a year, and the previous owner (my friend) used the yellow stuff in it for years prior. No issues. I used it in my Benzo too. Use green stuff in my Bimmer.

^dont know what to tell you...it's a well documented issue with B8 / B8.5 A4/S4 A5/S5.

Rain x coats the sensors giving you a constant fluid out warning when it's still full...

I have zero idea about Mercedes.

You bought it new if I remember, did you drain the Audi fluid and then refill with rain x day one lol?

Edit: You took delivery June 2 sold it by August 11 so it was just over 2 months.

Huh, thought it was longer. Must have sucked that much (to me, that is).

I'm to cheap to buy Rain X for my 07 A3 lol. ..I get the warning for low coolant when it's cold outside though... goes away in 30 seconds so I won't deal with it apparently the sensor needs a cleaning or replace...

He stalks me from afar I'm thinking. Truth be told, I'm not even sure who he is.

Woa, do I know you from WUS somehow?

Jealousy will do that.

Seriously though, do I know you from WUS as well? Seems familiar.
