The humidifier in my home is leaking water - it looks like the valve (I think that's what's called) isn't fully sealing and water is slowly dripping out. I took a couple photos:

Seems like it should be an easy fix but I really have no idea. My first thought is to maybe clean the valve but not sure how to dismantle it.

The pin there should come out then the float should all come apart and out. Then the rest probably unscrews. Wear gloves or use wrenches. It'll be tough getting it apart with the calcium buildup.

This calcium build up is very common.

Gawd those drum humidifiers are disgusting. Require too much maintenance for the average home owner. I'm surprised they still make them.

That water looks like mud. Replace the whole unit with a flow through one. They're so much more hygienic.

pfft. it is just calcium from our hard water.

Pull that retainer pin, and unscrew the nylon nut, and remove the intake hose.

Bring it all up to the kitchen sink, fill the pan with some vinigar, drop the float and stuff in to it too.

let it soak an hour, and then brush it all off.

Put it back together and reinstall.

Profit.

CLR works a little faster. If you're rich, get that over vinegar.

I think your humidifier has cancer.

I know we changed the whole floater assembly on ours and that fixed it until we gave up and unhooked it all together.

Nah, that's a petri dish of stagnant water that has warm bacteria laden air blown over it constantly. I hate those things.

I'll admit, I remove them every time. They work for a year, get like that and are continuously an issue. Never had an issue with hardwood or whatever.

My poverty humidifier had the same issue. I undid everything but couldn't get the screw portion of plastic off the casing, felt like I was going to break it.

Lol thanks for the tips guys. I've been renting this unit out so I haven't checked the humidifier for a while - I'll definitely give it a good cleaning with some CLR (balllllerrr).

Less baller alternative and more green would be vinegar.
