View Full Version : E550 Coupe

Does anyone have any experience with these at all? In particular the 2012 model. How does it compare to the C63 you guys think? On paper C63 is obviously more powerful (481hp) than the E550(401hp). But since the E is twin turbo I wonder what actually will be quicker at our elevation? They are both RWD so that doesn't make a difference.

They should be fairly close in acceleration. But wouldn't be surprised if the E550 pulled on it still lol.

Surprised to see they weight the same! I'd personally rather have the E coupe, I have yet to drive a turbo version but I adored V8 models I've been in.

Na only loses around 11.5% power up here.

My CLS550 is dead even with my C63 black, so I'd say it's pretty close.

I went from a 2010 C63 to a 2014 E550 cab. Power is pretty close but the lag is really noticeable compared in the TT. I miss the exhaust and the stiffness of the C63. The E feels floaty even in sport setting and the brakes feel spongy after a a hard brake or 2.

Thanks for the input guys. I do love the looks of the E quite a bit but I've always liked coupe's. Sounds like as far as the power is concerned, I wouldn't be downgrading too much then. Plus I am thinking since it's a Twin Turbo, a tune would probably have a significant impact on the power as well and make it a lot quicker?

Thanks G, that's exactly what I am worried about. I know I will miss the exhaust but that can be fixed. My biggest worry is the overall feel of the car. With the C63, I don't know it's hard to explain, you can just give it to her and you actually feel the overall excitement. I am worried that I would miss that with the E as it might be a bit too 'tame' for my liking.

Other than that, they are both RWD so I don't see any difference in that. If the E was AWD, that would make a huge impact on my decision. The sedan version is, but I don't like the looks of that and I am worried it might feel even more boat-like. It's a tough decision but as much as I like the looks of the E550 coupe, at the moment I am leaning on sticking with the AMG.

Shak, I know of a white on black e550 for sale here in Calgary. Excellent condition.

Don't even bother if it's pre-facelift model. The new LED lights are beautiful and the rear looks much better.

It's really too bad they didn't make a E63 Coupe. Or even better, a BS version. The facelifted E Coupe is the best looking car behind the S Coupe, a 600hp AWD with redonk fenders and bodywork would be the shit.

S coupe

If I had to pick an E, the AMG Estate or wagon/whatever you want to call it.

What year was the facelift for the E? The one I am looking at is a 2012 with 11K km's. Next to new pretty much.

Is there an E coupe that's AWD? I know of the new E63's but what about E550?

That is sexy. The S63AMG Coupe would be ideal but that's gotta wait a few years for now! lol

The E was facelifted MY2014. There is no AWD E550 coupe.

Damn that sucks. That's the biggest reason that's holding me back. If I am sticking with RWD then I might as well stay with the AMG lineup. I looked at a 2012 SLK55AMG for a bit but feel like it's a bit of a girly car? As for winter driving, I am sure if I doing that in my C63, SLK55 would be fine too?

G
03-02-2015, 10:12 AM
If it's your DD I would seriously rethink the size of the SLK. I had a s2000 and the lack of rear seats really gets to you after a while. Really dumb that I had to put my drivers in the front seat because the back can barely fit my golf bag.

Super confused here. You complain that you can't drive the C63 in the winter, yet you are looking at another RWD car?

G

He thought the E coupe has AWD which is does but only for the 350 but not the 550.

Get an E400. Soon to be E450 AMG sport 4Matic I am sure.

Tune that and you will have the best of both worlds.

I know, totally am confused. Almost to the point where it feels like I am just so bored of the current car that I wanna switch for anything else. Yea SLK, or a newer C63 wouldn't solve anything but just fulfil the ADD issue for a little while.

Yea I didn't realize that initially. I do like the 350 as well but I feel the lack of power would be way too noticeable?

I am looking at E400's they look nice. Who know's when the E450 AMG Sport will come but if it does it would be right up there. Even the C450 sounds pretty nice, although perhaps a downgrade to the C63 in some ways?

The S550 coupe and the S63 AMG coupe come in 4Matic.

Just saying

S550 isn't that much more than an E63?

G
03-02-2015, 02:31 PM
^its like 2 for 1. S550 Coupe starts at 150k while a E550 coupe starts at 75k

He is considering the 63 though. Which is 110 to start.

The nice thing about the S is it comes as equivilently loaded compared to a loaded E.

Obviously S has features you cant spec on the E so we wont count them.

So he can get a nicer, but slightly slower, car for a little bit more then a loaded E.

Truth is, he needs his own forum, not just a section. There are the posts on here, mbworld, and the PL that all ask the same thing. haha

I am certainly not consider the S63 right now. If I was a drug dealer sure I'd have the kind of money right now but it's gonna be a little slower for me. lol.

I do love the S63, but eventually many years down the line perhaps depending on various things.

Haha, I have given free legal advice to many forum members and I don't mind that so that's not an issue. :p

I actually would love to have a G63 or something but much like the S63, can't quite afford it yet. The G is definitely on my list though, I think they are awesome.

Lol, I have nothing on PL about this. Fine if you guys are gonna be whining about this, I won't post asking for opinions anymore. Next time it'll be with whatever car I end up with just like what I did with the C63. However many years after I decide to do the switch. lol

Haha it's all good, we are all just joking around here. Anyway, back on topic so sounds like the E550 is out as well. I don't wanna end up making the change and regret it a few days later as that would be the worst feeling ever.

I do enjoy the C63 quite a bit so I think the only time I should really get rid of it is when I am 100% sure about what I am replacing it with, otherwise I will just end up regretting my decision. Also, I think I should have 'must have's' and one of them is AWD I feel. Especially it being a DD it's almost necessary in AB in a powerful car. That's the second thing, I would want a car that's at least as powerful as the C63 if not more.

The GTR and 911 Turbo keep coming to mind over and over again. But for those I think I need to wait a little bit. With the upcoming wedding and couple of investments, I don't think I can quite pull the trigger on one of those yet. The way I am looking at it is to perhaps keep the C63 for another 2 years or so when it'll be easier to sell it in the private market. Do that and then get something nice. Maybe even look into SUV's like RR or something at that point depending on how I feel as I will be older and hitting the big 30 mark.

+1 for keeping the C63 then jump up to what you actually want in a couple of years. There is no point changing for the sake of changing if you're not going to be 100% happy with it.

Haha so true, I am doing it on the 14th. Although I'll be turning 29. :P

But yea leaning on keeping it for now. Think I saw you last summer outside the Edo in Oliver in your Ferrari. Recall seeing the pics here and thinking it was the same car, plus a brown guy in it. lol

Yea that's exactly what I am thinking. Whatever I can afford at the moment would be changing for the sake of changing and not something I truly want.
