View Full Version : Trying to find name of Domestic "intercooler turbo" car

I saw a super clean example downtown, and the name is eluding me right now. I wanted to google it for shits and giggles. All I know is that it said "Intercooler Turbo" as part of the name, it was a domestic, and it was from the 80's or 90's. And the guy driving it was mid-50's with a mullet.

daytona or sundance?

No. Neither of those.

It had factory "intercooler turbo" written along the side of the car, if that helps.

No, domestic, not import. Not a hatchback. I think it was a coupe but based on a sedan chassis.

Damnit... this is gonna bug me now.

Thunderbird is the closest match... might be it? No intercooler turbo badging though. Just Turbo Coupe

Indeed there is. They preceded the SC'd Thunderbirds.

Definitely not a lebaron. Had headlights/Tails like the turbo coupe. This is the closest match. But it DEFINITELY said "INTERCOOLER TURBO" down the side and looked to be factory writing:

Well, the Cougar was it's sister car (and very similar in appearance), but it never said intercooled either. I'm thinking it was an aftermarket sticker you saw.

Turbo xr7 cougar?

That could be it.
For the badging it could be aftermarket or a weird edition. Ford did a lot of weird unknown editions.

Definitely wasn't a GNX. Would've recognized it a mile away.
The writing wasn't a small badge, it was scripting across the length of the door.

Plymouth Laser? depending on the year it would say turbo intercooled or turboAWD.

I've seen the odd Lebaron with the VNT Turbo with a intercooled turbo decal on the door.

The turbo J cars weren't intercooled though. They just had a smallish turbo badge on the front fenders.

It's a mystery car for sure, not too many domestics were intercooled save for the Chrysler cars.

I almost feel like it must be one of the captive-import Mitsubishi cars, but I can't for the life of me figure out which of them would have a garish badge like that and be a coupe.
