Anyone bought liquor this past weekend?

I usually buy Pilsner Urquell from Stupid Store... up $12.60 from last week... $0.60 a can (+tax)! :nut:

I guess because it based on worldwide production so it gets the largest mark-up (http://www.aglc.gov.ab.ca/pdf/quickfacts/markup_rates_schedule.pdf)! :banghead:

they just need to legalize pot and tax the shit out of that, leave my damn beer alone!

(to be fair, those receipts are from different locations, i find prices vary by location, i always buy from superstore liquor)

That was the point of my post (I include the mark up prices)...

The alcohol tax rate increased by $0.22/L:

http://alberta.ca/budget-revenue-explained.cfm#liquor

I can't remember how big those cans are, but you can't blame that big of a difference on the tax changes.

500ml $0.60 x2 = $1.20/L

Have a look at the pdf... not I'm not sure how they calculated that the mark-up increase is 22-cents/litre for most products. Unless most people buy from small brewers? :dunno:

:werd:

I usually buy from both stores and they have the same price. :dunno:

Any way just wondering what other people have experience, seems like anything imported is going to have a big jump in price!

It looks like you bought 24 x 0.5L = 12L of beer. The tax increase would only account for $2.78 of the difference between your receipts.

Did I make a mistake?

I was referring to this one:http://www.aglc.gov.ab.ca/pdf/quickfacts/markup_rates_schedule.pdf

Edit from the link:

Beer – less than or equal to 11.9% alcohol by volume Based on annual worldwide production (see explanation at bottom*) Mark-up Per Litre

Small brewer mark-up – if production is less than or equal to 20,000HL (hectoliters) $0.20
Small brewer mark-up (mid level) – if production is greater than 20,000HL & less than or equal to 200,000 HL $0.51

Small brewer mark-up (transition) – if production is greater than 200,000HL & less than or equal to 400,000 HL $0.51 on sales in Alberta up to and and including the first 200,000HL $1.20 on sales in Alberta for the next 200,000HL up to and including 400,000HL

Standard beer mark-up – if production is greater than 400,000 HL $1.20

From yours - 90 cents per dozen (341ml); approximately 8 cents per bottle or can.

Mine - $1.20/L for the largest producers... ??

Man this is really confusing! :nut:

That dollar twenty isn't the increase but the total provincial tax. There was already $0.98/L before. Given it's imported, Superstore may have taken this opportunity to adjust for our crummy dollar. Definitely the tax increase alone isn't responsible.
