Lol, who would buy a car that does this? The market for old people buying new cars can't be that big.

Well, never buying a Ford again.

I can see a stream of new technologies & products being developed to entirely bypass these systems if this ever makes its way over here. Id never buy a car that has this, fuck that. :thumbsdow

No more revenue from photo radar?

The bureaucrats would shit their pants, or they would just increase other traffic fines by 500%.

That would give you the jerkiest ride ever or get you killed if used in Calgary. The speed limit jumps up and down in short distances or is not changed at the right places.
Barlow south onto deerfoot south as an example. Technically that whole offramp is 60km/h, and the 100 sign is pretty far down the lanes. I've seen people drive to letter of the law there and it creates chaos for 130th mergers. You need to be 80 mid ramp and around 95 at the bottom of it.

Me thinks tossing up a temporary 10kph sign on Deerfoot would be fun.

As a cruise control feature or something you can turn on/off I wouldn't mind, but for normal driving no thanks. I use my gps that displays the speed limit and it goes red when you go over the limit and that's good enough for me.

Cause a driver to be bored and you will cause more accidents.

HAHA thats what all you Liberal Car enthusiasts get. It's been warned here before why do you need a car for more than going from A to B at the posted speed limit.

Rights of gun owners are just the tip of the Iceberg that helicopter parents are willing to stomp all over the civil liberties of car enthusiasts are next. :banghead:

Too true. My god is this too true. There has been a major shifting of attitude towards automobiles for years now. Look at 30 for sunnyside, bike lanes, whole neighbourhoods being developed for predestrians instead of cars, I have also read a few studies done on how North American cities should build to reduce automobile infastructure, resistance to motorsports parks and car meets.

Maybe I'm off base but it sure seems like certain people love to bash cars in certain situations.

EDIT: And you can add motorcycles. Motorcyclists get a large amount of rage directed at them as well.

2011 Phaeton could read signs (speed, no passing, exits etc) and would display it in the HUD. Didn't pull a dick move and make you obey them though.

Ford is not the only one where similar technology is being tested.

I was in a training session for BMW and they are working on a system where if another BMW driver looses control at a certain point on a road and you drive down that same stretch, the system will reduce the speed of your own car so you don't crash as well. It will use the pre-wired satellite radio to keep.track and should be out in 5 years or so.

Technology is getting out of control imo...

Hasn't Honda been selling Civics for like 40 years?

Only problem with that, is most think they actually go fast...

Don't get me wrong, there are a few really quick ones:burnout:

Its funny because the CSCC was just having a similar debate over a potential new system for rally stages to better keep track of the cars on stage. Nothing to slow you down but a warning that another car infront has gone off stage or stopped on stage and could be obstructing the course. I love the idea personally.

Agreed, this will be used to shove self driving cars down our throat.

Haha when I drive an entry level car I definitely drive a lot slower

How about a car with built in radar and laser instead.

Nothing new and may actually beneficial for rentals as people in new environments may not pay as much attention to signs.

As someone who got 4 tickets totally over $1000 during last euro trip (fucking socialist nordic countries), those in city speed signs are tough to catch.

Stupid idea, sometimes you have to speed up to avoid an accident.

I honestly don't think it will happen. Way too much liability for automakers. Remember what happened to Toyota and their "sudden acceleration" issue? The throttle by wire system was fine but the very fact that drivers had an issue with the technology of a brake pedal and a "gas" pedal led to an onslaught of "the car did it!" once they learned that the throttle is not directly controlled by the driver but rather a chip that reads the pedal input and applies the throttle.

If this was actually in place we would have "sudden deceleration" or "sudden lane change" syndrome. It would be a liability nightmare.

Toyota was eventually proven right but in the end it still butt raped their profits for 5 years.

It's destined to cause problems. Like that video where volvo showed off their automatic brake system to avoid collisions and the car slammed into the back of a semi in front of hundreds journalists.

It was a one off glitch but that cost volvo tons.

Come on, you can't just discriminate against old people.
