Where in Calgary #30

I have gazed westward towards the foothills and mountains for longer than most beyond members have been alive and have a twin as well.

On a side note, after some concerns were raised by a few beyond members I did some thinking and also consulted with a few beyond members and would like to suggest that this 'Where in Calgary' thread series should have a new thread created every time the last is found a new item/location is built - the exception being the Where in Calgary #27 - Street Art series (http://forums.beyond.ca/st/390584/where-in-calgary-27-street-art-series/) as there is quite a bit of street art (wall murals and kin) scattered about Calgary.

Old threads will quickly fall in the sub-forum where they're located and interesting ones may be bumped from time to time like the Bearspaw Bluffs (http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?s=&threadid=372235) one.

I don't own this thread series and openly welcome others to contribute as well and if people still have issues with what I or others may be doing with this thread series, then please discuss with a forum moderator via PM's as opposed to cluttering up any individual thread with unrelated discussion.

Finally, the issue with one all encompassing thread is that old stuff may bubble back to the surface plus having multiple subjects in one thread could very well elicit discussion that could take away from the current search - not that the discussion of previous subjects isn't necessarily bad but IMHO it's better suited to be in a thread that can stand on it's own instead of muddying the waters in a mega-thread.

Well, someone best be watching for birds trying to shit on their lower lip.

Anyhow, sometimes a riddle is better as a picture may make things just a bit too easy and if anything, the riddle finds in this thread series have proven to be the most entertaining and got forum members the most engaged.

Never the less, there are plenty of building twins in Calgary but I'll bet they pretty much gaze in all directions.

Twin condo/apartment towers on 90 ave and about 20st SW. Have been there since at least the mid 70's.

Is it weird that I'm assuming this is a statue of some kind, and not a building? How does a building "gaze westward"?

Nope, one of these two does face west but it's not these guys - I had actually forgot that these two existed.

Read the clues in my answers above - that would've easily eliminated these guys.

Those damn riddles make things so much more interesting - a picture, even a partial one, would've probably given this one away by now.

the problem with the riddles is that the game is no longer about how well folks know Calgary, but how well people can understand thinking that may or may not make sense

There is a statue of a soldier on a horse in Central Memorial Park, and there is a "twin" at Fort Calgary. Twin is in quotes because it is two different people on the horses haha and I don't even know if they both face west. Too lazy to verify.

Most likely not twins then and not these anyways. Good try.

Not necessarily so, my riddles so far haven't been all that difficult and the clues that come along the way in the thread provide direction just like they are in this thread - the riddles can't be all that difficult otherwise most will shy away. This one will require your thinking cap and while some are figuring it out, some are not either even after some major hints of what it may or may not be.

That's why my riddles won't be that difficult when combined with clues that will appear in the associated thread - hell, it quite taxes my brain to come up with these without giving away the answer too easily.

Now that's a great answer except there are 4 of those original lions, 3 of which are still in storage. Some of you are on the right track, by the way younger than me but older than tirebob.

The bear statue at Baker Park? The park was originally the Baker Memorial Sanitorium (built in 1920), but not sure when the bears were put up.

Baker Memorial Sanitorium bears - nope, but the twin that's the focus of this thread is made of the same material. BTW, Bakers Park looks like a nice area to check out.

Dinny the Dinosaur - nope but sort of on the right track with respect that one twin may be in Calgary while the other is not.

With respect to myself and tirebob, some in here do know tirebob and at least one knows myself but my reply to ktm_525's post should get people closer to the age of the item/location being sought. If I give an actual year, then it's going to be too easy - let's just say it was before Woodstock but after the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show.

Also, for my benefit and maybe others - I am now maintaining a list in the first post of the first thread in this 'Where in Calgary' series with links to all threads, this I will include in the first post of any similar new thread moving forward - list is here (http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?s=&threadid=354521). I do see that the SE quadrant is heavily represented but probably in part because there is just that much more history there - will put my thinking hat on for other quadrants, NE will be the most difficult I suspect.

Not this one, does this one have a twin?

The exact twin of subject of this thread is over 6,140km away - the Calgary one is an exact copy of it's distant twin.
