Hey all. I just have a quick tech question. I'm wondering how hard it would be (or if it's even feasible) to take an engine from a FWD vehicle and adapt to a 4/RWD vehicle. I'm Talking 2.8 Chev here if it makes a diff. Thanks!

to my knowledge it would be possible, it's just finding a compatible drivetrain to the engine you would be using that would probably cause some problems

what kinda car are you trying to put it in? chev put 2.8's in both front wheel cars (cav) and rear (s-10's, blazers)

well it would be sort of hard, since most fwd cars have horizontally placed engines that put power right to the wheels....u would have to put the engine sideways (i think its called transverse) for it to turn the driveshaft to hte rear wheels....

right?!

If what ninspeed is correct, and i'm sure it is, you shouldn't have a problem getting the 2.8 into another car with a different driveline layout. The only problem I can see is engine mounts being different from the truck line to the car line (4 or rwd vs fwd).

If its going into an s10, you're better off finding a donor S10 with a 4.3, or you can drop a 350 in there. Boo to the 2.8 :thumbsdow

okay guys, I'd love to drop in a big plant, but I'm a poor universit student, carbed 4.3's are harder to find 'round here then 2.8, and v-8's are just to hard on the ol' gas...

2.8's are good for a car but not so good on a truck very slugish. You definatly need a higher litre engine in there. Sell the 2.8 and buy a different engine.

why do you need a carbed 4.3? The FI ones are everywhere and they're cheap. I doubt a 4.3 swap will be any more than a 2.8, and not if you're gonna adapt a FWD one on there. Of course, you need to tell us what its going into.
