Grabbed a couple Hikvision cameras from AliExpress for the front of the house, per recommendations another thread.

Got them here and for various reasons (mostly me being a dumbass) I bricked both by trying to upgrade the firmware with the American version.

The cameras I have are DS-2CD2132f-i and these cameras came with the newer 5.2.5 firmware (5.2.8 on the sticker), which can't be downgraded to the US or European version as it's too low.

They are PoE cameras and shipped with English enabled firmware (hacked). If you install new firmware it switches to Chinese-only and if you use the US or UK versions they will just sit in a boot loop.

Just wondering if anyone else did this and if they'd like the solution to get it back to English. It's not a horrible process and only takes a few minutes but it took a few hours to find all the pieces.

I'll post the solution in here if anyone needs it. Basically you can enable the multi-language option by editing the login.js file after uploading the proper firmware by TFTP.

Great cameras, but yeah, have to be careful with firmware.
I have several 2032s can't beat 'em at the price.

yep, i have the same cameras, cant say i have ever had the desire to hack or change the FW though, and the language doesn't mean anything to me, i use a 3rd party app for monitoring/recording, it's called blue iris, work great for motion triggers, can alert you on your phone via their app, text, or email.

^^ looks like a camera fault, try replugging the camera... might need to verify the Ip address is still relevant, your router may have assigned it a New IP address, it's best to configure your router to so the cameras ip is static.

Hey OP, I can't help unfortunately, but I'm interested in these cameras and wondering if you can link to the original thread that recommends them? Thanks

I think what I found was a thread saying to check AliExpress. Then in my cheapness I probably spent 12 hours looking for a good priced camera that passes the "internet review" research. I can't find the thread all that info was is...Blairtruck had a vid of him smoking his tires in it I think.

This was a big help http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=1942 and I used Youtube to make sure the connectors were what I wanted. Decision on these was whether or not to get sound or wifi models. I went with straight up PoE connectivity and no sound.

I'll post the unbrick/multilanguage solution a little later.

Will be checking out the blue-iris app today, thanks for that recommendation guys.

i used networkcameracritic when i was researching also. great resource.

all my outside hikvision made it thru their first Edmonton winter without a single hiccup.
and the interior camera that went down last night, all i did was unplug and plug back in again like suggested. and works fine again.

Holy shit! I had no idea. He was a very knowledgeable guy, and very helpful in the IP camera community.

RIP.
