Maybe that's why they cancelled the venza :D
Better watch out, that new turbo base civic is probably going to have more torque

Hey 10 extra hp is not to bad! Honda usually does jumps of between 1 to 4hp so this is decent lol.

Better than nothing and without upping the displacement there's probably not a lot more they can do to squeeze extra power. I was hoping they would up the displacement to 2.5L but it seems like Toyota/Subaru don't want to invest more money into the platform for the rest of this generation.

Thinking about it 210 hp out of a 2L is good. Mind you I wonder if they got more revs with the new intake manifold design. 7800. Would be cool in itself.

It would be a victory if the new intake could get rid of the torque dip.

Prediction: The 2.5L will be the Swan song for the FRS, and the BRZ will have a turbo 2L. Same car(s) but the FRS will become the base and the brz the turbo everyone's been waiting for.

Does the HP bump apply to the BRZ as well ?

10hp bump would be great, I wonder if they are using different technologies to put the power more efficiently to the ground like bmw does ie: by disconnecting the ac, alternator pulley under acceleration to have less draw?

^Every car does that under heavy load. When you put the pedal to the metal on 99% of cars it will dial down alternator output and disengage/dial the a/c compressor, giving all available power to the transmission

I would imagine mapping and slight adjustments to the engine made the 10hp without screwing up emissions and fuel economy.

It would be hard to add 10hp with just a tune I think. The engine is quite sensitive to fuel quality already. Unless they made dial back ignition timing more than usual once knock is detected.

Interested in the new bumpers. The bigger grill will definitely help intercooler/oil cooler fitment.

I dont understand how its really that good... Honda did it like what.. 20 years ago?!?!

FRS is a cool car (especially chassis) but the engine is nothing to write home about.

Do keep in mind the RSX type S was $3100 in 2002. Scion is trying to do this for less money, and had to use a boxer to so they could keep the hood line low (new minimum hood to engine clearance rule). I believe they did consider a regular inline 4 but the point above kept them from doing that.

The true performance K20 engine/head combo had to go obsolete in 2011 because of emissions. Yes Honda did it and it was a monster. Look up the 240hp mugen and 260hp mugen 2.2L K20 Honda made as the swan song.

With this day and age, fuel economy and emissions are the driving factors. As I said, 105hp/L right now is GOOD.

I didnt really consider the emission side of things... But arent cars just averaged over their range? I may be out to lunch but couldnt scion make the FRS a bit less clean and make it up say on the... xA or IQ or whatever smaller cars? Or is it an NOx thing? I have no idea... but just saying from a 'seat of your pants' view, i would still find 200 hp underwhelming..

You also have to remember that engine design has never been Subaru's strong suit. Their NA engines have always been pretty average at best and their turbocharged engines have always played catch up to their rival Mitsubishi in robustness and ultimate power potential. You can argue the 2.0L engine in the twins is arguably the best engine they have ever designed.

Yes and suspension and some minor brake work and a few cosmetic things.

Yes. For the most part I believe you're right, manufacturers do average over their fleet. That said I just have some personal opinions on the subject, but I think the 5.7L V8 and the 4L in the 4Runner are killing Toyota.

They're just now getting into turbos (for emissions and efficiency reasons) so I would see a big shift in the future.

Gone are the glory days of high specific output in inexpensive vehicles. Give it 5 more years and most high strung NA exotics will be gone too.

CAFE, the legislation mandating a certain level of fuel efficiency across a fleet, increases their minimums 5% every year for the next 10 years. Manufacturers can't afford to make one vehicle less efficient and make it up elsewhere because the bar is constantly being raised and they're going to have to cut emissions on that car anyway. Might as well do it now.

By 2025 a fleet of small cars made in America will be forced to meet 60 mpg, or the manufacturer will be fined. I don't know whether or not those fines are a big deal to car makers, but the motivation to make every single vehicle as fuel efficient as possible is there.

Darkane's right about most exotics as well. Any relatively high volume company like Ferrari or Lamborghini will be switching everything to a smaller turbo version. Luckily, we've got technology coming which make turbo cars feel more and more like NA, so it'll end up win/win.

Those side markers look so out of place. I'd color match if I get one.

Color looks nice. Seems like light blue is becoming a trend.
