I can't find the answer. http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/distracteddriving.htm

Mother got a ticket for using her cell phone $287.

Are there demerits? The above link says $172. Did the fine go up? Thanks.

I got one last week. Was confused too, fines went up on may 1. I still don't think demerits. FYI any commercial drivers, it is only Mike phone and Cb radios that are exempt and the officer wasn't even sure of that. You supposed to be allowed to be in contact with your employer which I was, lesson learned I guess. And before I get shit on I have 2 Bluetooth set ups just made the choice not too use them nobody was ever in danger.

Fines did go up over a month ago for a number of infractions as part of the PC budget.

"Bill 204, a private member’s bill put forward by MLA Moe Amery, received widespread support in its second reading in the legislature Monday afternoon. If it passes, it would see the fine for distracted driving increase to $250 from $172—the fine set in Sept. 2011. It would also include three demerit points for each distracted driving offence."

Sounds like 3 demerits now.

IMO Talking on the phone isn't bad lol did that for many years. Agreed texting is. It's easy to spot the difference lol

I don't actually think the demerits are in effect just yet. The price of the ticket itself went up because ALL tickets went up, not because that private members bill was passed. I don't think it's been proclaimed into law yet.
