I been looking into upgrading into a nicer used SUV with more power and the 2011/2012 Grand Cherokees with the 5.7 V8's have caught my eye...love the look and way less pretentious than the X5/GLK's I been looking at (my budget is high 20's). Anybody know things to look out for on these? If I had the budget I'd buy the ST8s in a heartbeat, but I absolutely hate the look of the pre-2011 ones.

My wife and I just picked up a 2011 Limited with the 5.7 a few weeks ago. We upgraded from a GMC Terrain and are really loving the new Jeep so far.

This is our first higher end vehicle so I can't comment on how it compares to the X5/GLK, but it seems very well built so far. Took a trip to Saskatoon a few weeks ago and couldn't find anything to complain about except that it sucks back a decent amount of fuel. We were just under 14L/100km for the trip.

That's a lot haha... But I'm willing to pay that price for more power.. How many km do you have on yours? This generation is actually based on the Mercedes ML I believe.

It has 79k on it right now, and the dealership had it listed for $31k.

I really love the look of this gen, although I wish the updated headlights from the 2014+ were a direct swap.

I have a problem spending that kind of money on a Q5 when I've had the 2.0t in my tiny A3... It's going to feel real boring. Plus I hate the look of those, talk about an unmanly vehicle, to reference an old thread, no offence haha

Also interesting you posted that Q5, I seen it on kijiji since the beginning of the year, I wonder what's wrong with it because it's priced pretty good...

The GF has the 5.7 in her grand cherokee, although it's one generation older than what you're looking at. So far it has been a great vehicle for us. Lots of power. Mileage is liveable on the highway. In the city the mileage sucks, you really have to think about driving nicely all the time. But overall it's been trouble free at 150,000km. Other than the starter we had to replace.

Just rented a 2015 with the V6 with 8sp, average 12L/100km. So that isn't bad for a few extra horses.

Dont buy it if you are commuting in it... my gf's old v6 was an absolute pig in the city... 14 l/100km comes to mind as full city tank averages....

The Q5 is actually pretty quick for a regular SUV, and faster than a 5.7L GC, so if you're worried about something like the Q5 feeling boring, you may be very disappointed with the GC. It's almost a second slower than a 2.0T Q5 0-60, and will be quite a bit more so at our altitude. It's a nicer vehicle than the GC, but not really the same class either. Worth a try if you can get over whatever puts you off about the looks, and will get you about twice as good mileage while being more fun to drive.

Sounds about right. I have a 4.0L 6cyl GC and I average 13-14L/100 doesn't matter if it's city or hwy. GF's HEMI gets 15-17L/100 city and 12-14L/100 hwy depending who's driving. Great vehicle but not designed for fuel efficiency at all
