Now this is how you kick off the summer. Benyl had the opportunity to take the McLaren 650S for a spin. Unlike the other exotics that we've had a chance in over the years, McLaren has developed a car that has the pros of an exotic with mind numbing performance, without many of the pitfalls. It's a car that begs to be driven, at the track, or a leisurely cruise to the supermarket. Enjoy the read!

The second picture (taken directly from the front) makes this car look strange. Like some one used the swirl effect on it.

Love what McLaren is doing with the pedals in this car.

Are carbon brakes to much for a car that will never see the track and simply be a pleasure / highway cruiser?

The carbon brakes do feel different, but it doesn't take a lot of time to get used to. They didn't go the Mercedes route where they have the setup feel exactly like conventional brakes. Although the outright braking performance would never be used on the street, the weight savings alone would be worth it. You have to remember that McLaren was very serious with weight reduction on the 650S (even more so on the 575LT). The coupe weighs 2868lbs dry, and every little bit contributes to that.

I loved the brake feel. The only time I'd see them getting annoying is stop and go traffic, but normal traffic was fine. Very easy to get used to.

McLaren can do no wrong in my eyes. If I had the bankroll, they would be choice #1. Such well thought out cars. Imagine..a "Practical" exotic (minus the GTR.)

I'd agree with you. I'm a big fan of the P1 and the MP4-12C.

This however, is not doing it for me.

That front bumper too... Blegh. If I can afford one, I'd choose a Huracan over this.

For those who drove it, did you find the foot space on the driver side kind of limited? The lack of a dead pedal kind of had my foot just sitting there awkwardly and uncomfortably. Minor complaint for a hell of a car, mind you.

Love this P1-esque front, but the MP4 rear definitely kills it a bit and makes it feel dated. The 675LT's rear is :drool: in comparison.

Mibz is 5ft tall his left foot won't even reach the dead pedal of there was one.

But yes, same space issue as the 12C. The 570S addresses that problem slightly by opening up that area a little more. Still no dead pedal though.
