Looks generally badass. Always cool to see local spots too.

The camera work is refreshing.

Thought this was going to be about that awful 2009 movie on netflix
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1336006/?ref_=nv_sr_3

Camera work looks spectacular.

To me seemed to have a bit of the vibe from Ravenous (just more "serious" since Ravenous was a bit of a dark humor)

hahah my tattoo artist was an extra in this movie ... I'll be trying to spot him the whole movie. apparently they haven't filmed the ending yet, though?

Finally got around to seeing this, good movie IMHO. I'm sure Leo will win some awards.

That bear attack though

I liked the videography and direction of the movie in general but overall it was sort of boring and slow. For me, it was okay at best, nothing extraordinary.

So, it wasn't as hot as Leo made it seem then?

I also found it boring.. A couple good spots but nothing that I would see again. I think he has done better movies.

It was a bit of a slow burn for sure but I've seen WAY more boring movies (IMHO of course). Not a lot of dialogue though, so if you need that to keep engaged I can understand that. Apparently the French were mad about how they were portrayed haha.

I was thinking the same thing - he was wet a lot and that water must have been damn cold.

I was debating on watching the movie or not and then found a good screener to DL. Made it maybe 20 min past the bear attack and turned it off and went to bed. Let it be know i have sat through some stinkers.

There were some interesting shots, but I preferred the version Liam Neeson did

I didnt mind it, I dont think i could ever watch it again, i dont see how it could be nominated and have won awards though. The martian was way better.

Agreed with most here. I was anxious to see Leo's performance and while it was pretty good, I definitely think he did a better job in other roles. This movie was too slow, too long, and I just never really connected with the characters. In fact, Tom Hardy probably had the best acting in this movie.

Leo might still have a shot at winning because this year's class is weaker than usual. I don't know if the Martian was 'serious' enough to win but I enjoyed it and Matt Damon's performance way more than Leo and the Revenant.

Saw it last weekend. I actually liked it a fair amount, but hardly felt it was spectacular. I'm also one of those types that enjoyed Castaway....

I like how they re-wrote the history to become some sort of blood revenge story.

Way too long. Way too many "poignant" shots. Far too much cello music.

Agree the pacing was slow but it was still a pretty good movie overall. You guys must have serious ADHD. It's a survival movie about living in the woods. What did you think it was gonna be?

I do have a few gripes:

- movie was longer than it needed to be
- lost all sense of reality in a couple of action scenes: surviving being washed down river and going over waterfalls, falling off a damn cliff on a horse then sleeping inside the horse reminded me of Tom Green and made me laugh
- cinematography looked a bit weird to me being in digital HD

It was still an interesting watch although 'enjoyed' is not the right word. It's a pretty cringe inducing survival story.

I can't seem to land on a final opinion of this movie. I can't say that I disliked it, but it definitely wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be. I loved the cinematography, but the story line seemed far too manipulated and forced. In some parts they tried to be too abstractly meaningful...it never really struck the right chords to deliver the effect you can tell the Director was going for.

I give it 3 out of 6 bear claws.

Just saw it tonight, sorry to revive a 2mo old thread but what I recognized in the film was well captured by this youtube video.

That was one of the most boring movies that I've ever sat through. I kept waiting for something to happen..anything.
