LED vs. Halogen for spot light use?

I'm looking to add some more lights to my forester and I'm just wondering what's your honest take on LED vs Halogen. I want to add 2 spot lights to my roof rack and I'm wondering what casts the better light at the maximum distance. I'm not a fan of LED flashlights for distance but as a head light for working around camp they are great.

Both are about the same price. Bonus to the LED is 8 can get something in the 4" range where as halogens seem to be 6".

You may not have used a proper LED flashlight then. Mine has an insane throw to it.

Yah, it hit and miss for me. If I just buy a set of Amazon what do I need to look for as far as specs for the LED? is there a type I should look for?

Have you looked at Hella Rallye 4000? They also have a compact version if space is tight.

Our cottage is in the kookanusa valley close to the bottom and from now until spring we are in Elk central. I also go way back on the Forestry Trunk Road (possibly the best dirt road I know lol) and would like the extra punch into the darkness when cresting hills and spotting deer. It's also a great way just to see the night life out there. Cougars and bears stalking the road at night are always cool to see.

I'm wary of the bottom one as I can't find a brand on it. I prefer the bottom one as far as looks go, I think the led bars look too "oil rigger on shinny low profile"

I have a 30" LED tucked away in my front bumper so its not quite so apparent, and I like it a lot for the same situation. I think I'm happier with having the flood/spot combo then a pure spot, as to light up the ditches is helpful for animals

How is it at highway speed? Do you find it easy to over drive the the usable light distance.

Technically you can't legally have it on on a highway, however I have used it in northern BC and don't worry about over driving it. Plus you still have high beams.. Only issue is making sure you have it off well before traffic or you will blind someone. I need to wire mine to only work with the highbeams on, so its a single switch instead of two. It can definitely substitute for my highbeams if I want further flood with my fogs on.

I pulled the trigger on some HID haolgen spots. I really like the high beam cut off rather than scrambling to hit 2 switches. I don't plan on using them on hw2 but once I hit 93 south it's very quiet stretch with lots of elk.

Might be worth getting a smaller flood LED bar as well, just for lighting the sides of the roads. I know that's my biggest concern is one I don't see who jumps in feont

I have the big sti fogs, polished headlights (they were yellow from life in japan), and now 2 spots up on the roof. I might get a bar for lower as I have a nice place in my bumper I can mount it if needed.
