View Full Version : Ignore list - do you?

Simple enough - do you utilize the 'ignore' feature and if so, how many do you figure you have on your ignore list?

For the record, exactly zero on my ignore list - have never used it here or on any other forum I have been a member of as I have found that even the most obnoxious posters can sometimes provide a post that has great insight.

Shouldn't this be a poll?

Welcome to my ignore list.

I have a 5 on mine. modded46, ZenOps, Thales of Miletus, Vagabond142. And last one is newyears1 but don't remember why that one made the cut.

I had thales on mine once things started getting out of hand with him ( when he started threatening people via pm and email and trying to dig up dirt on where people live and stuff). What a case he was.

Now no one.

I have 33 on mine. I'm surprised it's that many.

Simple enough, create your own thread if you want a poll. A poll-less thread usually elicits a better discussion IMHO..

None. I actually like reading comments from the radical fringe of the forum, it comforts me to know there are lots of people out there with far greater issues than myself... haha.

Never used it myself. I'm not so idealistic to think that some fool will have occasional gems. But I'd like to be able to choose to ignore on a per-instance basis, rather than relying on some automated tool to shield me.

I think Arash is the only person I'd ever have considered blocking. I found his posts nonsensical.

Whatever happened to Arash anyhow?

Beyond is dying. At least the non-car-forums part.

I think this is more about the medium, than anything particular to the site itself. It's surprising it's held on this long.

I'm glad that anyone can be so irritated by me on an internet forum to put me on ignore

I did have Toma ignored for a while, but I took him off the list.

Arash didn't bug me at all, the people who responded to him didn't make any sense. It's like responding to a bot :nut:

Most of the people on my ignore list aren't there because I can't handle their opinions. They're there because they act like "one trick pony" is a compliment. Look at a guy like Arash, you know every one of his posts was going to be about exposing some conspiracy and calling everyone corporate shills. If I know what you've written before I read it, then why bother? There's been threads where almost the whole page is posts by two people that I've ignored, and I'm pretty sure it's probably just nonsense, and I can scroll right past it. And if I want to read it, I can.

The rest are probably just people posting dumb shit for the sake of posting dumb shit. I don't remember why some of them are on there but I assume I was right to do it so they stay there.

Zenflops has actually started taking his meds now and seems to be normal ..... what the hell?

But seriously, I wonder how many of these famous posters are just bots/mods designed to ramp up the traffic on beyond - after all its traffic that drives the revenue stream :dunno: (and many other sites do this as well)

Thank you for that. I feared once he was no longer satisfied with nobody listening to him on a forum that he'd start acting out his thoughts in real life. Maybe this way he'll just forget about so desperately trying to make people see his convoluted ways.

In the end, someone like that probably will act out in real life anyway, but at least Beyond's hands are clean in that.

As for the ignore list, yeah, I have a small list running; generally people who were just too "out there", or people who insisted on multiple occasions to resort to name calling and anger when I was trying to have a discussion/debate. I don't have time for either kinds of people.

I find threads by guys like Zenops and Toma entertaining. I prefer opposite views rather than self-confirming views as it leads to discussion. I even agree with Toma ~30% of the time.

I'm sure hes a good guy IRL, nothing against him, he's never offended me, I'm sure he's harmless, I just find his posts annoying.

Sort of related, sort of not but with some of the more controversial members being banned in the past 6-12 months, beyond is no doubt a more genteel place. Maybe that's the intent of these recent bans but I think we're going to see a forum that is coloured the way most of the forum members cars are, that is shades of white, grey and black.

I suppose this also could see the forum move more back to it's auto focused roots which may be what some really want - who knows why the recent ban came about, maybe that member was doing more than just posting up a lot of nonsense other members just didn't want to see although I just didn't bother going into those threads. Tough job being a moderator or forum owner - all I would like to see is at least a few pastels if colors are a no-no.
