Anyone else following this?

Randy seems to really love the AMG GT-S. And wow, is it fast!

AMG GT-S time is 1:35.57

Just for comparison...
2015 Nismo GTR - 1:35.51
2015 Porsche 911 Turbo S - 1:35.62

Also the Z06 engine is performing like shit. lol.

AMG GT is starting to grow on me. It's a hell of a deal too starting at $150k (even less for the non S model next year).

The Z06 though, it looks perfect with the aero pack. The laptime on a broken car is ridiculous.

I think the fact that it performs even in the same leauge as the SLS is a testament to how good it really is.

Personally i have no idea why people buy SL's when this is for sale.

If this downturn every turns around and my bets start going the other way....

Same league? It blows the SLS out of the water. It should, underneath the GT sits a refined and updated SLS chassis. It's basically a new SLS without the gimmicky doors, a new name, and a hefty discount.

If you look at the lap times, it's right behind the SLS Black Series, which runs on much stickier tires (Pilot Sport Cup 2's). Put both on the same tires, and it's no contest.

I agree with you, i really just didn't want to argue the merits of the sls vs the amg gt lol.

The biggest problem the SLS had was its cost. They fixed that. In a big way.

That AMG GT-S is about 0.5 sec slower than the Black Series SLS on Mazda raceway. Pretty nuts considering it "only" has 500hp.

Also lol at the Corvettes last place finish..... Ughh.

Hopefully there's some heavy depreciation on these, and we can see them go for sub 100k in a few years.

One of the big problems for me was fitting into the sls. Very low head clearance especially with a helmet when I was racing one.

AMG GT may be different with the bulged roof. Very cool car and sounds very well sorted for first model year. Good job MB.

Just don't buy a first year one. They're plagued with problems over on the AMG forums.

Its weird, my problem with the SLS was always fitting it into my wallet

Most of the issues have been addressed though. Lots of pissed off owners.

ECU limp home mode - software update

Tail lights poor finishing quality, cracks - warranty replacement

Suspension noise over speedbumps - TSB requiring tech to remove a brace and sand it down and reinstall LOL

Rear main seal small leak - no fix yet, it's a hidden problem, you only know it's happening if you drop the tranny

driveshaft issue - needs replacement, 6 week wait

Driveshaft. Carbon replacement or are they going to use another composite material in lieu of?

WTF GM :thumbsdow

Why can't you send a working car to MT for testing. First they send that dud for the first comparo against the Nismo GTR, now this. Randy lapped the old C6 ZR1 around this track in 1:33.70 I was really hoping to see a 1:32.XX out of this car.

In one of the articles on MT, it was saying that the Vette had issues because of the gas, but all the other cars will filled up with the same gas. They even tried to give it 8 gallons of 101 octane to get it going, but that didn't help either. This should have been a top 3 car for sure.

Yah I doubt it was gas, lots of speculating on the Corvette Forums but at the end of the day the car quite simply didn't work.

Still, GM pony up a automatic ATS-V. They should have replace the Z06 with another unit.

This is a huge PR fail.

They did. Probably just didn't make it in time. MT had a whole different red Z06 for the drag race... Assuming it was actually filmed after the track bits.

I should be getting a chance to rip around a Z06 next March so I'm very curious. It should do well here with our 94 fuel and cooler all around temps.

Z06 is a bit of a dog. I drove one at Exotics Racing. It needed way more time to cool and they had you keep it in a higher gear then the other cars to keep the temps down. The Ferrari and Porsches were running hard all day and needed no special care. The Z06 was barely used and had to be babied.
