We used almost our entire set of RE71R this weekend between Cole and I :O

I hope someone comes out with a similar competitive tire so we have more options next year.

I am hoping that Dunlop comes out with a competitive version of the ZII. It feels so much better than the other tires out there, but being an autox-er, I have to go with the fastest ones available.

Also, if it is raining or the pavement is cold as ice... sport mode is a really great tool for getting a clean run right off the bat without too much risk of losing it. It is not that invasive, and even in dry conditions I rarely feel it get involved. We had an event in the rain last weekend, and I easily pulled ahead of where I should have been comparatively in raw time using this tool. With TC full off, the result was too unpredictable; one part would be great, while the next corner it would let go.
The fuck? What kind of a real car, or real driver uses TC???

Noticed you lacked any info on aligning the car. From my AutoX days, a solid dialed in alignment geared for AutoX is the 2nd biggest performance boost in stock class right behind tire choice. Or are you just keeping that shit secret? haha

Toe is a pretty good setting to help stabilize that rear end a little better. What you lack in outright grip, you make up for in driver confidence (and consistency) so in the end you drive faster because you can drive closer to the edge without losing it.

And yea, total dig at your real car thread. :) TC is a interesting aid, in fact, back in the day when I ran my SLK32 competitively, the chassis was terrible for rotation out of the box, and I had front and rear toe setup so that the car would rotate really well, but under hard transitions or heavy trail braking, it was a "I'm spinning out now" sort of rotation that can't be saved. So for specific corners, I'd flip on traction control so the brakes would brake each wheel differently to keep the rear end stabilized, and turn it back off at the apex to power out properly. Best of both worlds! haha

Mercedes actually fixed that problem in future traction control programming in the newer cars, under braking, even with TC fully off, it engages and brakes individual wheels at different rates as necessary to make sure you don't spin out under the brakes.

I'll try to make it out at some point. Didn't realize having 3 kids is hard work.

Perfect, I'm going for wheels and 205/50/16s, rear Konis and a cat back I think. Did you run full stiff on the Konis?

I see 205/45/17 RE-71R also now available for the budget conscious who want to run OEM wheels.

Tire Rack is the only place I can find these, ~$1200 CAD set womp womp.

Is 2.3lbs less unsprung weight per corner worth $400 USD to me for going with the OZ Ultraleggera over the Sparco Assetto Gara?

At bigger events where championships are won by hundredths and thousandths? :)

If you are on any kind of budget, obviously the Sparco's offer better value. If you just have money to burn, then OZ all the way! I went with the J10's myself, kind of in the middle.

But, cheaper tires on cheap rims = more seat time :)

Yeah I read about the centre cap melt situation. I didn't realize you had the J10s, I might go with those. I think they were like 0.3lb lighter than the Sparcos and cheaper too!

My car is 12-16 weeks away estimated so I have lots of time to decide on wheels at least.

With so many people, it looks like their format only allows for 3 runs in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. So I will have to figure out what kind of grip the site has, optimal tire pressures, and course layout style all on the fly. It also looks like the club has some very competitive drivers, so I really have my work cut out for me

/race car driver excuses

Really looking forward to the event and meeting some of the locals. Plus I have a fresh set of tires for my debut and the car is feeling as solid as ever. There are even 7 other cars in my class finally!
Mostly asians? You'll be fine haha.

Good luck keep us posted how you do and how the competition is down there.

VCMC has a ton of good drivers, so coming any place close to the top should make you feel "worthy" :) As for old white guys vs asians, VCMC doesn't seem to follow that "rule" in any way.

Nice showing for your first event there Nick -- keep working at it, since I think you belong in the top ten. Of course, when SASC dudes show up, you will be bumped back down :P

Well, they don't have any excuse, since they use exactly the same software as we do (mine) :)

I think they also have a router on-site, so you should be able to use your phone to get results as soon as you get back from a run.

The OPAX (short for Open PAX), is a scoring variant to show how well you would have done at a big event where you only get 3 runs for the entire day (e.g. Lincoln).

As for single best run of the day (VCMC) vs sum of morning plus afternoon (SASC/CSCC), that is at the discretion of the organizers. For example, this Sunday we scored morning only, afternoon only, and the sum of the two. We did this because a bunch of rookies only ran on the main course in the afternoon, and I didn't want them to all show as DNS.

The biggest advantage of doing our way (sum of two sets), is that it allows us to make course changes at the halfway point. It also tends to average out cold morning plus warmer afternoon times.
