Interesting, do you feel this is a particularly complete breakfast?

Good question. I'd imagine it's not, although it does have more protein than you'd think (about 30g), and I add fruit to it as well.

Most importantly, it takes about 1 minute to make.

In terms of price/convenience/performance, it's a slam dunk.

I have a mix of slivered almonds, pumpkin seeds and steel cut oats. I use 1\3 cup of that in the same amount of Greek yogurt. Not sure of the macros on that, but I think it's pretty good. And tasty as hell, and keeps me full for hours.

doesn't eating soy cause an estrogen increase?

I've wondered about this. I tend to eat/drink a lot of soy.

My own male-health is fine, if not above average for my age. Neither do I have man-boobs.

I've heard a little of which you speak, and have wondered if there's some effect I'm not noticing.

There are certainly not evident effects that cause me concern - But I don't know enough of what to look for in terms of non-evident effects.

The worst are those who park in front of my house AND try to take my picture.

That REALLY twists my knickers.

All carbs, you need a high protein breakfast. Might as well have two bowls of Captain Crunch as to eat your horse feed.

I figure his meal comes out to around 1,050 calories (before fruit). Broken down as 175g carbohydrates, 25g fat, 34g protein.

Adding fruit wouldn't substantially increase protein or fats, but would increase calories/carbs fairly significantly.

It's the cereal that does you in, at 58g of carbs per serving (and 1 cup = 2.20 servings).

Thanks A790. In my excitement at finding a breakfast that was easy, tasty, and had a decent amount of Protein, I did not bother to check the carbs.

1000, or even thereabouts, is too high.

Sucks.

Well, I think it depends how you handle nutrition for the rest of your day.

I aim for around 2,400 calories per day. A 1,000 calorie breakfast still leaves two 700 calorie meals... totally doable to do and without much of a "sacrifice" to do it.

Also, if you're particularly active, you don't need to sweat it too much as long as you're using that energy.

If that soy / estrogen myth wasn't started by the dairy industry, then they're probably kicking themselves for not having thought of it.

I stopped drinking bovine mammary gland secretions at a young age, as it made me ill. It's been soy milk, almond milk, or rice milk ever since.

How do you figure?

Alpen Original is 378 calories per 100g. 1 cup is 227 grams. Therefore, that's almost 900 calories on its own... no?

EDIT: Yep, 1 cup = 2.2 servings (http://www.weetabix.co.uk/brands/alpen/original-muesli). I was surprised too.

EDIT AGAIN:

According to Weetabix, 1 cup is closer to 5 servings... as they define a serving as 45g of cereal.

FINAL? EDIT:

OP, you take an entire cup and fill it with cereal? If so, that means you're going through a box of cereal every 3-4 days... is that correct?
