Anyone has any experience using the water filter or softener system by Culligan?

I recently moved to a new home and immediately noticed the need to soften the hard water since I cannot stand how dry you get from showering each night.

I had a Culligan water filter (the one where you install for 300.00 and replace the filter annually) in my previous resident, and thought that worked well.

I had a Culligan sales manager came to my home to access and gave me their product line up information.

Apparently for a few years now, most home owners are now installing what appears to be a all in one type solution, removes chlorine as well as softens the water. The biggest difference is that it does not require an annual filter replacement but rather you have to use salt instead as it self-cleans

The price is 6 times what I paid for a simple water filter system. Therefore I would really like some opinion, experiences in selecting this stuff.
