FYI the new Ford GT wasn't at the auto show - it's a redesign of the classic Ford GT-40. That car above is a restoration of the classic, but how much is original, I don't know. It looked mint from all the angles I was able to see and the doors sure look authentic (the roof opens with the door).

Trivia bonus: It's called a GT 40 because it's 40 inches of the ground. The new one was going to be called the GT-40, but a) It's taller - 48 inches I think. and b) Shelby or whoever owns the name wouldn't give it up. So the new ones are just called "GTs".

But damn it sounded just juicy. I can't believe he just drove it off, and it was starting to snow too!

Yah I caught him leaving. Red - is the engine authentic or is the body authentic? I thought I read somewhere one of them was a refab.

Depends what you define as a kit. This car is a factory made replica assembled by an iso2001 facility in South Africa. It is shipped here minus engine and drivetrain with none of the suspension on. Being a fan of the GT40 there are only a couple things on this car that were not identically replicated. The orgionals had 302's with webber carbs making just shy of 410 horse. This one has a 347 crate motor powered by a webber downdraft standalone fuel management system makin 500. The origional had a push style clutch mechanism this has a Tilton pull style slave. This car has a stainless steel monocoque frame origional ZF style 5 speed even the AC has been done in the authentic manner. For your information they built 3 cars with AC. When origionality was not kept it was upgraded with better technology from todays era. All I got to say is this car is a killer at 160mph she is right at home. By the way it does 210 mph. We would have pushed it farther but I alighned the wheels with a tape measure at 3AM in the morning and wasn't into dying in firey crash LOL. By the way the car weighs 2350lbs and does the 1/4 in 11.2 with the 410 horseengine do not know what this one will do.

Make no mistake, it looked excellent up close and sounded just amazing. Everyone driving by was rubber-necking as you were leaving. :D

Just out of curiosity - was it a project for a client or something for yourself? Any plans on getting a new Ford GT to compliment the retro one?

The funny part of all of tht is that there is a company the specializes in the reproduction of GT40 parts that is owned in part by a group of Calgary investors that ownes the trademark of "GT40".

How is that BS?????? I have personally witnessed Audi team Joest use laser alighment wheels, them to make sure string out the car and use..... a tape measure!!!! How do you think things where done until lasers became economical and didn't require 3000 sq. ft. of room???

why would some guy that spent huge dollars on a gt40 replica trust his (incompetent) dyno guy to do an alignment with a tape measure and take the car to over 200mph on a cold highway

i can understand a DIY guy doing his own alignment

why woldnt he take it to an alignment shop
